That's a shame. 15-minutes of research could have saved you from this.

I can see your point! I truly wish i hadda gotten it else where but now im stuck with it.Im not running mine even on high power so hopefully it wont bleed on other channels.I must say that if I had of been on here and saw all you guys concerns when i bought it i would have went else where. However you live and learn i guess.I was sick of doing exactly what you said carolina and never really had any luck finding anyone who knew what they were doing.thats the reason i got on here in the first place and alot of people have helped me alot with my set up,so ill keep learning and someday, maybe ill have something that everyone likes.....i dought it but maybe lol

Yep, no sense of getting too pissed off now. Can't changed what happened, but you can send it to someone else to get fixed. I know that Sparky's CB Shack has "fixed" many of RR botched jobs. Do your research. No matter who you read good reviews about, there will always be bad reviews as well.

Yes I payed 535.00 for radio and shipping. If your not on the road, radio shops are not a thing of plenty ,,, at least in my neck of the woods . Going from point a to b you see the same thing. As for the radio its a Galaxy DX 2517,, and I did not want them to do there [super whacky pack ] I just wanted a good radio to mess with as retirement is real near. As the man said Live and Learn,,, and if it happens to yea twice its your fault. Shame on radio active for taking advantage of people. What gose around comes around,, I always heard. Hope every one has a better new year. Toker

A Galaxy DX 2517 base that's been "Super Wacked Packed"!?! That don't sound good at all :biggrin_25524:

With newer Galaxy bases like the 2517 & 2547, I'd just peak and tune them as far as the stock internals will allow and leave them. Don't add or delete anything. They will do upwards of 18 watts DK and 40 watts swing with a good peak & tune... and add a good amplified mic to really get them loud! These radios perform great without needing to do much at all.

Have a good CB shop turn that radio around and it will be a real keeper :yes2557:

I agree, good radio if you leave out the stupid mods. Never will understand how a high school dropout with a 20 dollar tune up book thinks he can out engineer a real design engineer who spent 200 grand and at least a half decade of college on his education.

$535.00 for a $425.00 radio. At little more and you could have gotten a 150 watt RCI 2995 for around $575.00 from H&Y Electronics. You mentioned that there is no one in your area that works on radios. If you have even just a little electronic know how you can go to CB tricks.com and it shows in detail how to tune up a radio and also where the tuning adjustments are located.

    If not...

If and when you get the radio back i know of a guy in NC that i and all of the locals have used for over 10 years and he has always done outstanding work. He is a ham plus he has worked for the state repairing their communications equipment for years so he actually knows his stuff. He does not do those stupid useless mods to the radio even if you ask him to and all the radios he works on are tuned correctly. Let me know and i will give you his contact information and i promise you.Once you get it back from him,you will be happy with it. I have been into radios for over 15 years and there are only two shops in the country that i trust with out question to work on my stuff. He is one of them.

Yea I was thinking of the rci2995 ,,but every body or foum I read said the radio was junk, That no had one last over six months,, one guy said that the people he bought his from fixet his twice an replace it once and it blew up. Now the one with out power is a good radio,,,,, but it looks just like the galaxy. I just don't know ,, I had an ole galaxy 2100 ,that worket foever in trucks and pick ups and thought it to be a good brand,, but who knows,,, my be it was the fools where I bought it that screwed it up. Radio active radios .

But you have to remember that people get these things (2995) from CB shops who hack em and max them out and because of that, they build up more heat then the radio was designed to take and parts start failing.I have had two of the newer versions and i have not had one single problem out of either one. Both of them are still being used by friends back home so dont buy into the BS you hear from others. These radios (especially the new versions) have the best receive you could ask for and are supper stable on SSB and with just a simple tune up,no clipping or hacking, they will do around 125 to 150 watts all day long. Now,you dont have to go out and spend close to $600 for a 2995,just buy a 2970DX for around $350.00 and you will have the same radio.

Another reason people dont like radios like the 2995 with the built in amplifier is because you cant use one with a low dead key like people are used to. Sure you can set the dead key at two watts, rip out the modulation limiter and let er swing to 150 watts or so. But you will end up with a sorry sounding, distorted and over modulated radio unless you turn your mike gain way back and then whats the point! Those radios are designed to be set at 40 to 50 watt key and let it swing from there but for those who are used to the Dozy meter swinging like a raped ape, they dont like it set that way.

Speaking of Brainless CB operators who call the 2995 junk...I dont know if you remember the Cobra 200GTL that came out just a few short years ago. They were decent radios with an amplifier built in and if you did not have one maxed out by Joe blow CB tech, sounded really good on both AM and SSB. But because of people who started moding these radios as soon as they got their hands on em,for as much power as they could get. They starting falling apart left and right because the radio was not designed to withstand all of the extra strain that was placed on the radios by those stupid mods. It got so bad with so many returned broken radios that Cobra stopped making them and repairing them under warranty. If they would have had set em up correctly they would have lasted. Now it was a cheaply built radio for sure but i know of a few that are in the hands of original owners who did not screw with them like everyone else, that still work just fine. It's the same with the 2995.
