Hey all,
I was thinking and came up with a ? with backing...
Why not get one of those backup cameras with a magnetic mount and throw it on the back of the trailer real quick when backing to be sure your not hitting anything?
Wouldn't this be extremely helpful when blindside backing as well?

Yes it would.
Thought of that myself.....then I realized most truckers are too #### lazy to get out and stick it where it needs to be.
AND.... what communication standard will we use? Bluetooth is limited in range. Radio freqs would be subject to multiple units over riding each other. Of course, we could use a simple wire feed. But that brings us back to point one....drivers are too #### lazy. -
they have backing camera packages that they offer at Fed Ex Custom Critical...you can buy them. we used to be leased on with them thats how i know...lol ..they were pretty reasonable too.

Waste of money

we didnt have one...

They work great. My truck came with one on the side and I bought a set mainly for security .....to keep an eye on the cars I haul but I did mount one one the back. I also installed a solar panel which powers many things I use in the truck. I have thought about putting wind turbines on the top of the truck also. We should use all the tools we can out here. God knows this job can danderous and stressful enough!

that was mostly the point of them at Fed Ex CC, was extra security...due to the nature of our loads...

It would work but you would have to take it on and off all the time. Most companies drop and hook trailers all the time so you usually don't have the same trailer for more than a few days.
We use to haul horses in a 53' foot trailer and we actually had cameras inside the trailer so we could keep an eye on the horses going down the road. My wife always wanted to get one for the back of the trailer. Back before technology we used walkie talkie's when I was training my wife. I guess you could use cell phones too!
I think most drivers get used to backing fairly quickly and don't have the patience for video cameras. They do have the on the big tour bus's and motorhomes.

If you're getting out to attach a camera...why don't you just get out and look to make sure you ain't going to hit anything?
dirtyjerz and DrtyDiesel Thank this. -
GOAL: Get Out And Look. Might have to walk back and forth a few times, but to me that's better than explaining to the company how you FUBAR'ed one of their trailers (or worse, some customer property). One guy on here has a quote that fits, "Don't think you can make it when knowing is a 60 foot walk"......
