Tire, this has been written about countless times. I suggest you use the search function and you'll find what you're looking for.

Thanks for the advice mgfg. The reason I am asking is because I tried looking via the serch function and didn't get too far. Either way, any suggestions? Thanks.

Well just to give you an answer, and since I am new here too, I have the Rand McNally TND 510. It ain't cheap, but has enough features for me. One thing though, I had to "silence" all the audio warnings it will tell you about, toll plaza's, speed limits, and such, as those get VERY annoying. So I just have it set to "visual" instead.

You know when I started driving in 2005, I did just fine with a trifold laminated mcnally map. Of course I was delivering pipe to drilling rigs in BFE most of the time. Didn't even have cell service half of the time. I will take a look at the units mentioned here and in the linked posts above. Thanks for the help.

Tire, Im using the Garmin 465T. has been pretty good for me.
The units that are trucker approved as follows

    Garmin 465T 560T/LT/LMT
    https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=275
    Randmcnally 510 5"screen or 710 7" screen
    http://www.randmcnally.com/products/intelliroute_tnd/index.jsp
    Cobra 5550 5"screen or 7750 7"screen
    https://www.cobra.com/category/gps-navigation.cfm
TomTom PRO 7150 (not recommended) just came out on the market
    http://www.tomtom.com/en_us/products/truck-navigation/index.jsp
Magellan RoadMate 5190 (not recommended - very unreliable and not user friendly)
just came out on the market
    http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/05/magellans-new-roadmate-5190t-helps-truckers-find-their-way-lik/

the reason i say magellan is not user friendly, try using the car version first then youll see what im saying. very difficult to use its functions ie finding address etc.

I would recommend the Garmin the most as choice #1 or the Randmcnally as #2 since it is programmed to follow the map.

    theres my 2c

I use the 710. The big screen is really nice for street level viewing. With as many different shippers and receivers that I go to the gps has saved me dozens of hours of aggrivation trying to find some of these places. Its not perfect though sometimes I have to use it in conjunction with google maps as the gps doesn't know some addresses.

    Kevin83165 Thanks this.
