They parts gets loose from material wearing away from the friction. A diesel engine is whats called a compression ignigion engine, whereby when the fuel air mixture is compressed high enough it explodes or ignites from the pressure and heat associated with compression. The compression ratio of a diesel is 17:1 +, which is twice that of a gas engine. A gas engine has a spark plug to ignite the fuel air mixture at a specific time.

we are talking about an overhead valve adjustment as the valves wear into the seat your valve lash adjustment gets tighter not looser, because the valve stem is rising as the valve seat is wearing.if its getting loose you have a cam lobe wearing or rocker arm wearing or a rocker shaft wearing out. and thats a whole other problem!
-
Yeah I'm glad you guys pointed that out about if any of them are loose when doing an overhead. So I've got questions to ask when it gets set the next time that I didn't even know I should be asking.
-
yep i dont have all the answers, i learn by hands on and i am not afraid to ask the stupid questions. im just a backyard parts changer. i have learned that the only person i can trust is me period. if i mess up or dont know the answer, i will admit it. im not a genius. heck i own and operate a truck thats not a genius by along shot.

i glad to know new things too...so if a truck has never had an overhead ran from the time it was new and it has 577000 on it then the rockers would be gettin so tight that they take a chance of breaking.
-
yep. something might

You have an Acert with 577000 and never had an overhead???

I have a 625 CAT, looking to get lots of black smoke. I have heard alot about this resistor going on the boost sensor? just wondering if anyone could explain how this works and if it is true?
thanks. -
yes it is true you can make one your self or buy one it fools the computer into thinking it has more boost then it does so it adds more fuel causing smoke hope this helps. what year is your cat?

Cover your air filter(s) with plastic bags if all you want is smoke.:smt064SmoothShifter Thanks this.
