I'm considering leasing on
Their trailers
Pay is $2.14 a mile for 525 miles a day
No Forced dispatch
Home every night 4 or 5 days - no weekends (voluntary drop & hooks available if I wish)
Truck parking at both ends of loop
Fuel and terminal facilities at one end
Fuel at cost
Their plates
$50 mo Bobtail insurance & personal
Maintenance fund
I pay road tax
I can lay over anywhere on loop
My home is not far off loop
Automated Self loading and unloading minimal to no waiting.
I asked about turnover and in last year only 2 retired and one quit for personal reasons. Increased demand is reason for new hires.
What am I missing here?
This seems like easy money....

What kind of work is it? What are you going to be loading and unloading yourself?
-
Where can I sign up? It sounds good to me so far...

Road Tax is the kicker if this is OR. Better understand this. I know they have different ways to do it for in state.
-
Leaser it seems has been burned by drivers not paying road tax and since leaser sells fuel so they are held to pay tax. They hold back a percentage, the balance is refunded quarterly.
Qualcom (free install) will track miles. Is there something else here? Other than no way to work the numbers.... Is there a different way that would cost less?
Miles will be in 2 states as well so there is that to deal with. I'll also need weight permits in both states @ 105.
My real worry is that the loop might take over 12 hrs to complete. With a Qualcom tracking I can't work the hours and might get stuck out and not be able to make it home before running out of hours.
OOOOooooopsie! There's the catch! How did I miss that. 11 HOURS DRIVING..... Google says the loop is 10.5 hours. Any bad traffic and I would have to take my 10 in route. And will probably mean it will take 5 days to finish 4 loops.....
Rookie mistake, in the past I have only banged up against the 14 hour on duty rule, not the 11 at the wheel.Last edited: Jan 7, 2012

Is it just qualcomm or EOBR? If EOBR then yes. But even still, you could get 5 loops just may have to finish last leg on a Saturday. For that kind of money it seems worth it. And on rare occasion that you have a can't miss event on Saturday then you do 4 loops.
DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
I'm gonna pass. The carrier is BCT
I would have gone for 4 loops in 4 days.
If I have to give up my home time I need 3 days off.
If I could use the exception to get me home Thursday I would, but I believe the exception extends only the 14 not the 11.
I'd much rather do a Bay area run.
Thanks for your replies.
