On an N14, passenger side of the motor where the coolant passes through from the middle head to the back...the thing between the two arrows in my MS Paint masterpiece. Do the heads need to be pulled or no? Coolant leaks only when the motor is cold and isn't a terrible amount, but looks worse than it is.

No, you don't need to pull any heads, just reseal the water manifold. The transfer tubes have replaceable o-rings.

Drain coolant, pull the water manifold, disassemble manifold and clean everything up real nice, install new seals and gaskets, reinstall water manifold, fill coolant.

cummins used this design of manyfold becouse engine block is not so rigid and cyl. heads move at 0.5-1 mm with block twist effect.

This really isn't a job for a beginner there is more here than you think. The section with coolant tubes are also the rocker box housings. That is the last section before the heads have to come off so a lot has to be torn down to get these off. Rocker covers, Jake housings, rocker arms, injector hold downs, injector solenoid connectors and then the rocker boxes. You'll have to fight with the thermostat housing too because that is connected at the first rocker box housing. You'll need all those gaskets and orings, several torque specs and then do a top end set after because everything was apart. Not really a simple coolant leak.

I figured as much. I guess I'll just keep adding a gallon of coolant once in a while. As I said, it leaks only when it's cold so it's not a HUGE deal. I've been wanting to put a set of injectors and rod/main bearings in it soon anyhow so that'd be a good time I spose.

For a quick tempuary fix try some.bars stop leak or some block sealer, its not a long term fix but it will keep dot off your back til you can do it right.
