What size tires? They make a difference. I've got 4.17 rear gears on my truck and run 70-75 mph just fine all day long....tachs out at a GPS verified 84.9 mph. With 11R24.5's, it is no different than running 3.73 gears with the low profile 22.5's on most fleet trucks....or 3.94's with either LP24.5's or 11R22.5's.
Now if the truck has the LP22.5's, you may want to look into switching to 11R22.5's the next time you need to buy rubber to help drop the RPM's....or if you run heavy & local (like that local farmer hauling his produce) that gearing would be just fine. -
I think you will be happier with the kenworth. The volvo motor's aren't good pullers or good on fuel.

I would bet it is a hair higher than that I have a series 60 Detroit with an eaton fuller super 10 with 3.73 rear ends and it holds 1500rpm at 64-65 mph. I know the higher power on the engine changes things but I couldn't imagine it being by to much. Please correct me if I am wrong though.

Where did the OP say anything about 4:11 rears. Now he is getting tire advise. He said the truck has eaton 404's, which as someone else stated does not reflect the gear ratio rather it reflects the truck having a higher axle rating (ie 40k rears as apposed to 38k rears). Most trucks have ds 402's, but, the ratio can be anything. For all we know he has 3:55's.
112racing Thanks this. -
It sounds like a good buy if everything checks out.

I was just giving a rough number. All we run are N-14s, but none are/or were set up to those specs. The closes I have is a N-14 with 3:90 and a 9speed. If I remember right running that truck over 70mph you were turning 1700 plus.

Read much?

Yep, Sorry. I read "into" that post wrong, my fault. I only read the original post a second time and didn't see a ratio in his original description and was commenting off of that.
