As far as I know, they have some radius related issue on coverage, so read the policy terms properly if youre signing. You should shop around online as most of the big auto insurance companies have websites where you can get free quotes. I usually compare rates and choose the policy that suits me best!

I spent half an hour on the phone with a Progressive agent, which ended up with me getting put on hold for another 5 minutes. The agent got back on the phone and seemed pretty irritated when he mentioned they don't offer interstate coverage out of Illinois, when one of the first questions he asked me was about the operating radius. Apparently he thinks Illinois is 1400 miles wide.
Not too impressed with that. -
Call Gabe at CM Brown (888 ) 217-6722. They write in IL and unless you have an issue that you would need progressive you can find better rates. Several people I have sent to him have been as happy with rates and service as I am.

I asked my state farm agent about it, he said I'd have a 600 mile radius and told me if I do long haul I may want to go with OOIDA.
-
Don't get me wrong, I love OOIDA, just not for insurance. If you know how to shop for an agent you will be able to find a rated company (OOIDA is not rated) with all the features of OOIDA for much less.
Best advice when shopping for insurance. Create an email with all the answers to the usually questions and just get it our to as many as you can. You will be surprised how the same insurance (carrier) will be thousands different from different agents.
Then take qoutes and start interviewing agents. Having a good agent is as important as a good policy. -
Thanks will do

I use River Valley Capital out of IA. They wrote my Progressive policy. Yes I have a 500 mile radius. However, I was told that as long as your not running CA every week. Its not gonna be a problem. Progressive is gonna have long haul again just not right this moment. A 700 mile radius would have been perfect for me.

There are a handful of Progressive agents that can write long haul insurance. -
I vote with my dollars. I would rather spend a few dollars more to do business with a corporation which supports the values that I hold and supports my livelihood, as opposed to saving a couple dollars while doing business with a corporation which makes political contributions running counter to what I feel is in the best interest of the country or funds organizations looking to have even more regulatory BS forced upon the industry that I'm a part of. If I learn that a corporation I do business with is advocating against me, I seek an alternative. To do otherwise is counterproductive. Every time you make a purchase, you are casting a vote...some cast their votes more wisely than others.K_man Thanks this.

OOIDA was almost $2500 more than our current policy. I just went through changing from GW to Northland, and I got quotes from Progressive and OOIDA as well. Progressive was about $1000 higher.
Northland even beat our last years rate with GW. So we are happy.
