Hey everyone, I was just wondering if any of you have any info. or experience relating to Jim Palmer Trucking. I saw one of their trucks the other day, and it was AMAZING to look at! I looked at their site, and it really seems like an awesome company!!

They are a great company but require 12 months OTR experience and do not take student graduates. As I see that you are a student in 1 year OTR you would be eligible to drive for them.

I believe they're 10 speeds, but they're starting to throw in a few auto.'s here and there.

I'll finish my 1 year and either go to Anderson Trucking or Jim Palmer.

What other companies give you 1500 dollar bonuses every year? That is a VERY intriguing deal right there!! :biggrin_2553:

If a company pays a decent wage theres no reason to give one but most however give a safety bonus at the end of every quarter and some also end of the year which amounts to at least a grand or so if they havnt found a way to take it from you.
Millis pays a 3-5cent bonus every week depending on how many miles you drove comes out to 3500-4500 a year guestimate and you dont have to wait till the end of the year plus a safty bonus.
So their out their you just have to search and find them.
Then hopefully its a company that doesnt try and take it from you one way or another.

    Looks are very deceiving.

I have five years experience, DOT compliant, Accident, incident, violation free, 300K under my belt local, OTR, FB, van, refer. Palmer completed my application in Five days and brought me to Missoula.

The compliance chic was out of the 70's; told us everything we'd been doing for the past five years not only was wrong and unnecessary, she spoke to me very disrespectfully when I answered her questions, ie "WHO told you you needed to recap?" DOT Oregon, California, Washington, ID, WY; any of them. According to Her experience, I NEVER should have experienced that kind of thing. As far as I recall I'd never met her nor was she present when I was offered that inspection. I have one of the most detailed logbooks on the road in my truck..and because of that and paying homage to the rules of the road, and doing as I am asked, my record reflects what it does.

Sharing that information in the classroom got me the tag "compliance issues".

40% of the driver violations listed on the SafeStat Module are logbook property violations in 11 and 14 hr rulings. 19% are speeding ticket violations. The rest are failure to follow signals, possession of drugs or open container, etc..oh, and two of them were issued for Driving while CMV disqualified.

Payroll..paperwork in by 5 MT Wednesday, issued on Friday; unless you're direct deposit, then MONDAY is your payday..Or, if you want a paper check in snail mail, in my case to the Puget Sound Region in Washington, it takes a week for mail to go from Missoula to my home. I gathered what information I could regarding the how to's to get my earned payroll back to my landlord and others..

...and fifteen minutes after she left the room, I was escorted out by the driver services director, for "payroll issues and non compliance with company policy."So much for following suit with everyone else in the classroom. On the way out I was not offered the opportunity to gather all of my belongings, so I did what I could (without being arrested, and trust me they would have).. When I asked the hotel to shuttle me back to get it myself, I was refused; the only place they were ALLOWED to take me was to the Greyhound station. The recruiter said she would gather them up and give them to whoever I wanted; the reception area said they Knew the belongings were in the instructor's office; yet during my inquiries I got the "we don't see that here" scenario.

Hell, they even bought pizza and had it delivered to JPT so I wouldn't come in contact with the other folks in the class (who along with everyone else was thrown into shock by Palmer's actions). They asked me how I wanted to go home; I told them by air, they said "we don't do that here" (although one of the drivers was reimbursed an airfare from California)

Those shiny trucks are washed whenever the shop gets time, and otherwise you must PO exactly every 21 days..not one day before or after, no more, no less. The only provisions given to care for the truck on the road are oil, coolant, and windshield washing fluid. Servicings MUST be done with ahead notice and in one of the three terminals only; no OTR servicings are allowed. If you can fix it to hold it together to get it someplace, fine; no kudos for that. No kudos for fuel economy.. (the buckles, hats, accessories etc you 'earn' are DEDUCTED in increments from your payroll..) Nor for the polish you might use to make the truck even look better..they'd rather you not at all. It's the 'don't touch the truck, just drive it' deal of the century.

All for the bargain price of Comdata charges, money orders, out of pocket expenses, trippak costs, and in my case, accident, incident, and violation free, 33 CPM..the bottom of the barrell.. and two complete weeks of My wasted time.

To the guy with porn on his cell phone, the guy who didn't seem happy at all about coming Back to JPT, the guy who is still shaking his head wondering what the hell's Really going on in there, and the instructor who offered dinner over a beer to discuss the classroom stuff that the porn phone guy missed, well, I wish them well; they're actually a great bunch of young men. As to the rest of it, you can make your own decisions.

Lest you enjoy exposure to experlatives, Don't be blinded by the shine or waste your time with an application; Nepotism is indeed alive and well and living at Jim Palmer Trucking in beautiful boring Missoula, MT.

Looks are very deceiving. Jim Palmer Trucking is an example of that.

Their promises are simply ploys to get you to join and stay with them:

A 'promise" of home in the next ten days, or after the first run, is this: a followthrough of only 24 hours home after six weeks on the road; not enough sleep, nor enough opportunity to appropriate a schedule for yourself. We won't talk about weight loss.

You will question their desire as to how you run your logs, which makes one question their motives..and that is simply this: you run until you drop from illness and exhaustion, trying to comply with regulation and failing, forcibly, and they receive the better part of the profits for it. Where the profits went is difficult to know; afterall, they filed for bankruptcy.....

Dispatch is freindly and professional until your Are dispatched, and at that point all the amenable conversation is gone; harsh words, threats, etc.

I can say this not only for myself but for several others who have been employed by Jim Palmer Trucking who DO in every sense wish to run in compliance.

I suppose most OTR companies have their downfalls, but Jim Palmer Trucking is not one I would recommend to anyone at all.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but better to know the truth than to be persuaded by means that you want no part of.

Blessings to you...and shiny side up.
