I have been looking for a book on The Business of Truck Driving. Not how to drive a truck, but how to make money driving. I have read several blogs on this subject here , but having more info at hand in book form would be helpful. Think everything a Company Driver might want to know to step up to O/O status.

The smart company driver, stays a company driver. If one wants to make money driving by being an o/o, then it'll take money to get started. I ask, "why"?

Why give up benefits, and a decent paycheck each week, for a chance to go broke? Why take on the burden(s) of owning equipment when as a company driver, you simply park the truck and go home? Why take your time off to work on your equipment, when all a company driver has to do is drive it to a company garage?

I have been in this business for too many years. I too have read such books, and I find no rhyme or reason to invest my money into a business that has no absolute guarantee of success. No business has any absolute guarantee, but I see trucking as a business that takes a lot of money, to make a little bit of money. I do not see the sense in that.

All for what, to get to be able to say that one is in control of his/her own destiny and not obligated to "the man" and corporate America?

I look forward to retirement, with the money I have invested over the years, rather than to have spent it on fuel, taxes, maintenance, and other business related expenses.

In closing, I am sure there are very many good o/o's out there, that do very well, and I congratulate them on a fine job, it's their thing to do, just not my way.
