Just wanted to give a BIG THUMBS UP to these folks--shining example of how all grocery warehouse should act--when I called for directions--the receiving manager informed me--I was welcome to park overnight(or after unloading for that matter)arrived 10 hours early for appt@9PM--they unloaded me anyway--and they did ALL the work--unload breakdown etc--no lumpers--no charges--just how they do business--and they brought the paperwork out to me and then directed me to a secure area inside their facility if I wanted to stay and take my break--with directions to their CLEAN restroom and breakroom!!
Just have to give CREDIT where credit is due!![]()

I drive for a carrier that is about 45 minutes from here so we do quite a bit for Hy Vee. Everytime I talk to other drivers about receivers I always say that these guys are the best, their other warehouse in Chariton which is SE of Des Moines is just as good. I wish that C&S, Super Valu & Wal Mart could be a quarter of these guys in regards to how they treat drivers.

You can tell the Working Man still has a lot of input into Hy-Vee's operations. Enjoy it while it lasts, drivers.

Its very hard to get on at HyVee(Company Driver), you got to know someone to get your foot in the door. They start you out part time and will not hire you on full time unless you have proven yourself worthy of it(anywhere from 6 months to a year). They base almost all there load assignments on seniority. Dispatchers are the best in the business and its a extremely rare you have a bad acquaintance. You act professional- do your job the way it should be done, HyVee will take care of you. You lie, cheat, lazy, be immature, don't do the right thing when it counts. They won't give ya loads as a part timer. In other words, they will value you as much as you value the company and your co-workers.

I've been to Chariten several times. Good people. I hate the truck stop though. No cell phone signal. No TV. No PeopleNet signal. Probably no Qualcomm signal either. Not even a payphone. You are in the twilight zone! You better be preplanned and rolling out of there.
I saw five young kids buying beer. They said that's all we got to do around here.
