I readily agree.. I wish I had more training....I do...but I have to make the most of my situation.as far as I can see this is the only choice I have.

I again have to give praise to Schneider....today was my day back at the operating center...while I had been told that I need not worry about my job....never the less...I was apprehensive. I was given an assignment to re watch and then test out on defensive driving and winter driving. This afternoon, I spent 3 hours with a 40 year veteran driver talking about a drivers mindset....thought process and good decision making. Then we spent an hour or so in slow maneuvers on our range...it was very valuable for me to get this one on one concentrated time with Bob. Some may think that SNI is a bottom feeder....I don't think so. They're one of the companies who have chosen to accept newbies....it's a business model....but they make it work with an excellent training staff, well thought out curriculum and strategies to handle the freak cases like me. I'm impressed. And. Relieved!
Wedge, Jarhed1964, mntbkc and 6 others Thank this. -
Glad everything worked out for you markus.
Markus Thanks this. -
Just HOW does a driver deal with that?
That was not a good way start out but I agree with you about The Big Orange. Seem like genuinely good people work there. -

That's good Mark and I am so glad SNI is retraining you! Dave again said they are one of the better companies!
And it's good to hear they put you with someone who has been out there doing this for a long time!!!!!!

I've been here at the OC for a couple of days. I've been using a sleeping bag.....which I find very confining...and have been eating at the OC cafeteria...which is great....but it gets expensive. So, I borrowed the car that they have there for us and went to Walmart and bought some cheap bedding....sheets, comforter and a couple of $2.50 pillows. Got some peanut butter, some crackers, bananas oranges and pretzel rods....ahhhhh. Now I have the comforts of home, Oh yea....got Netflicks to watch on my computer. I'm planning to get a 12 volt cooler to keep things....but..these things make a big difference in the way I feel about doing this trucker thing.

Markus, I've been following your journey as well and felt that same clench in the pit of my stomach when I read about your first day. So glad it seems to be working out. I'm an "old guy" too, at 58 and it would seem that this is pretty much the best option for a career change. How is the Mrs. holding up? This seems to be my biggest hurdle as I think I can pretty well adjust to the lifestyle change but I've been married 37 years and the kids are grown although my son still lives part-time with us. Most people post how they're adapting but I really think the better half has more to adjust too. I think there's plenty of distractions for the driver to make his adjustment but for the wife, there is no distraction, only an empty chair and an empty bed (we hope). How's that side going for you?
