It may depend on who you're dealing with. They didn't charge you any extra for the 18-13 core difference?

no i deal with a independant shop thats a eaton dealer. alot of your after market shops will tell you no core then turn right around and rebuild your 13 into a 18.

Gambi, I have had that same grind you describe the entire time I have owned this truck to one degree or another. had the auxiliary box gone over about 5 or 6 years ago, put in a gear, the forcing cone and some other parts I don't remember, fixed it for about a year. Kept getting worse, so I took it apart last year when I was slow and put in that big bearing in the back of the front box, Fixed it about 99 % It still does it once or twice a month, but I guess I can live with that.

Believe me... you DON'T want a Rockwell transmission. Hard shifting SOB's....

That's what I want to hear, some feedback on the Rockwells. I'm not sure if I want to try one or stay with Eaton. It's looking like reman Eatons are running just under $4000 most places.

I didn't like any of the rockwells I drove. They never seemed to shift as smooth as eaton fuller

Old thread I know....but I am looking into a tranny upgrade also.
The current rtlo16913a had been a pos since my truck was brand new. So looking at rtlo 18913a or .
    rtlo18918a.
Best prices on either of the above? Issues with core charges?
I am plated for 117k lbs btw, and live in mid mo.
    Thanks

Pulling that kind of weight I would go for the 18 no matter what. I don't pull heavy but have an 18 and love it. The only times I split the bottom gears are when taking off on a steep hill I will start out in the high side of low, when gearing up on an entrance ramp that is steep is will also split 4th into the highside then to 5th, don't have to wind it up so high this way, and once in awhile will split bottom gears in slow rush hour traffic.
