Luck is when preparation meets opportunity. You were ready, and the job was open. It is somewhat unusual, but not unheard of. Good luck.

This gives me hope.
I believe I am in one of those areas that has an over abundance of trucking work. Even though I will try to get a local or regional job, I'm keepin' it real by just assuming I will have to OTR to get experience under my belt before landing these more ideal (for me) jobs. -
I did it too. I found a local job right out of school working for a company that leased trucks and drivers to manufacturers. I did that for a year and one of the manufacturers I delivered to decided to get their own truck. I applied for the job and got it. I feel very lucky to have it. There were drivers with 20 yrs. experience applying for the job.
My pay went up $5.00 an hr. with payed holidays and vacation plus a 401k the company contributes to.
I drive a brand new truck pulling new trailers on a dedicated run. 240 miles out and 240 back. I get about 60 hrs. a week with time and half after 40 hrs.
The only downside is I work midnights, but I'm starting to get used to the hours.
So no it's not impossible, but you need to get out there and hunt these jobs down. And APPLY . -
Its not rare really. Getting my class a at a company that requires two years -
