I always thought it was for Down Under because not even DAF-dealer knew about that option. But I think ZF is not a bad box either, even if there has been some durability problems with them.

Is there a manual 12 speed ZF also? I always thought they are 16 speed.

there is i have never seen it in real life but daf is first manufacture who offers 12speed manual zf in europe

low range gear in 16Sxxx have 4.71:1 ratio which is main culprit why they are not strong enough and have small torque ratings

in 12Sxxx it is 4.56:1 so i guess they also will not be so strong

    scania/volvo gearboxes have 3.75:1 (ishift 4.35)

from what i can see from video i get feeling that 16 is much easier to shift

you can shift it with 2fingers it does not "sticking" also smaller walk and more precision than this

but 16 is way too much gears

I agree, 16 is far too much also I had trouble from those ZF boxes, I wouldn't take one again, I didn't know they made a 12 speed,

Haha well spotted riverstick, I fear it will take alot more than a second hand car dealer to repair the damage to their reputation here, I'll be certainly doing my part to let people know the service I got from pacaar and their crap daf trucks

yeah you need to shift 1.5gear at once

i really cant see reason for 18speed fuller with very small difference between gears on DAF

    Scania man Thanks this.

It should be at least a little bit more reliable, even if even they have had some problems lately behind high torque engines.

An 18 speed crash box would be alot of work since you can't skip gears
