Alanp613 said it perfect. As a L/O you will have to work hard at fine tuning your operation. You will often ask yourself "what the heck is going on here ". But if you keep number one the concept it is a BUSINESS, you can survive and actually make a good living. It is a big commitment, failure rate is high, but Alan is proof - it can be done. Good Luck to you.

Alanp613 , some drivers i spoke with , told me that JCT runs you alot (( wich is good )) but you got to do least 3k miles a week to make a decent paycheck ..., right now i am a flat bed driver making around 900 to 1000 weekly BEFORE TAXES and avg 2200 to 2600 miles weekly ... My concern is what kind of truck should i get? new or used ? ... and what you said about taking home 2000 a week , that is after payment and tax? or before that? ... if i run 3000 miles a week what you think will be my avg paycheck before taxes with a 600 weekly truck payment , thanks alot for your help , is important before i make an decision .

That is pretty good for a guy with 1 year. Don't try to do lease purchase until you have an idea of how the trucking business works. A breakdown can set you back weeks. Breakdowns are expensive, and your truck can be in the shop for up to 5days b4 it can even be worked on.

If you like driving your truck at 60 mph so you can save fuel, and Your checks to go up and down as the fuel prices go up and down. Go for it. But if you have a family you trying to feed stay company driver you don't need the headache's of lease purchase.

It depends what your goal is, if you are wanting to make the next step to eventually own a truck then jct would be a good place to start, 5 year lease with nothing else attached but a dollar at the end. There WILL BE good and bad weeks so its a decision you have to make, be more responsible with your finances so those bad weeks will not east you alive. If you go on the website the driver posted few posts up, the truck payment on there is pretty much what the brand new cascadias are running. So based on their figures, running 3200 miles will get you 1 grand take home approximately.

Some Guy on the CB said JCT had DOT in-house or something and was going under.... LOL, then I read this stuff. Must be the same person or a great rumor spreader.
