If they have already unloaded it, then i would think that they would not give the signed BOL back to the driver, and kinda of hold it hostage until it's paid........... just a guess never had it happened.
-
If the company won't pay I would assume the driver would have to.
You've been at this for 30 years and it has never happened before?
Me?
I would probably say 'put the load back in my trailer, since you unloaded it without proper authorization'. -
I'm a lumper.. And at my warehouse we make you fill out a receipt before we start whichs says you will pay this amount to get unloaded. If you don't pay won't get your bills back or product and probably would call the cops.. I've never seen anyone not pay but we have had people say after we were done there not paying and they told them they would call the cops then magically they had the money..
jerrytdd Thanks this. -
I always felt the whole lumper deal was BS....Just my opinion.
The receiver orders the freight but makes someone pay to unload their own stuff....
I feel the driver should not be responsible for the deal.
I know.....Bash away!....puncher, Greg20d, flatt and 1 other person Thank this. -
I feel the same way...and I'm stubborn as a mule when it comes to my principals and my money. I'm not reaching into my own pocket to pay a 3rd party to unload my truck. If the shipper knows there are going to be lumper fees, those fees need to be paid IN ADDITION TO the freight rate.
I've had receivers reject loads before. The shipper informed the receiver that they would be billed for the transportation fees going out there, the transportation fees coming back, and a restocking fee. They agreed to pay all of those fees, and I made some extra money coming back loaded.
When I got back, the load got new BOL's and was sent elsewhere....I made out good that week.

nice!! I know if you came to my job if we had broke down most of the load or all it before they reject it then you still gotta pay. Remember doing Sweet potatoes few times and only having like one or two pallets left to break down and the guy who inspects produces come over and kick it. Then I just loaded it back on his truck and went on his way
-
Yes,,,, But don't you get paid either way,,,,,,,,,,,,, right? Or if the load gets rejected do you still get stuck with working/paying the bill for FREE. I am really just wondering about that. I have seen some lumper's unloaded my trailer and get paid cash. I have heard that on some of the smaller lumper operations that they are paid as independent contractor. Do you work for a grocery warehouse or some other kind of operation. I think that (all ) of us would benefit from your experience in this kind of occupation. so please put fourth all your knowledge.

Aslong as you pay wether we keep load or reject it I get paid.. I work for best loading services inc. they are one of the bigger company's there is only 3 lumper services that are allowed at SYSCO and we are one of them. I get a paycheck at end of the week just like everyone esle taxes social security Medicare come out just like everyone esle check.. Where guys get paid cash is usually free lance. If my company charges you to do your truck I make a percent of the charge then the rest is split between sysco and best loading. We make most of are $$ on the cash loads. Since prepaids don't pay us much.. But each of are warehouse are different some get paid percent like me and others get paid per case and pallets.. It's similar to you guys when it's busy and your getting good miles make good $$ when it's slow and aren't getting as many miles pay is down. Same as us if there are lots of trucks have chance to make more $$ when there isn't many trucks usually not gonna make much.
Got anymore question feel free to ask -
...so let me get this straight: The truck driver has to pay the lumper in order to have the receiver's freight removed from his truck...and then the lumper pays the receiver a kickback for allowing them to be there unloading the receiver's freight off the trucks?
...In other words, the receiver ordered the stuff on the truck, and now they are getting paid by a 3rd party to have their own shipment removed from the truck which brought it....at the trucker's expense?
...and that's legal? That is one hell of a scam y'all got going on.
puncher Thanks this.
