I have Interstate, Central Refridgerated, Knight, and USxpress. USxpress is a last choice because their training pay is terrible. I have to have a company that will take pets. Otherwise I would go with Marten. I am unsure yet as to whether Knight takes pets, they have no info on their web page. Swift is last with USxpress.

I've taken a tractor over 49 before, I had to drop trailer by Hallelujah Jct, and crossed over that way. Then I pulled a '53 footer from there to the 299 down into Redding. I live North and on the coast, which is why I wondered where you are from, because "Northern California" is a large place.

Which is why they aren't hiring from this area, even though they keep running ads in the paper that they are!:biggrin_25523:

Ya, I have heard of one guy in Florida somewhere that was so far off the beaten path that Swift wouldn't fork over the extra $$ to get him home time.

Luckily for me, I live off a major CA hwy. Actually, the only reason I take home time there is to see my youngest daughter. Otherwise I would relocate, probably somewhere on the CA coast :biggrin_25519:

Norcal you might want to try swift, they are a large corporation and you will feel like a number, but that being said they have alot to offer and alot of divisions to try out before you quit to move on. I first would check out all the options in the Sacramento area first, because it sounds like you are close enough to park your truck there to get home. Swift has a terminal in Lathrop, Cal and one in Reno that may fit, but also try some smaller companies around Sac. Like Hendrickson, or Gordon or NPE or May. Just my two cents

Well I've made a personal (as well as a financial) commitment to stay with Swift for 13 months. I figure that if after 13 months the good doesn't outweigh the bad, I will have enough experience to look elsewhere. If I'm happy with my situation, I'll stay on.

I'll be getting my truck assigned on Monday (9-17), and should be getting my first load Monday night or Tuesday Morning, so then I'll see just how well they run a rookie solo driver. I'm talking to a guy I was in the Swift school with about running teams on the dedicated route he has been on with his mentor. Sounds like a good opportunity and I feel like I should give it a try, since these types of dedicated routes don't become available very often.

Any dedicated drivers out there? Do you prefer dedicated to OTR? Sure would like some input if you have it, good and bad.

Swift just cancelled there pet policy so no more pets. I worked for Swift for a min did my school with them all was good until I broke my leg. I was gone for more than 30 day so they fire you. So I have to get rehired with them okay no problem. I go back down and they are trying to tell me I have to go back out with a trainer for six week. What I don't understand. I drove solo for 3 months and was only gone 60 days. No tickets, nothing ever happened to me out on the road so I don't get this. Well I was going to suck it up and do it cause I need the money. Well then they try to put me with a crazy man for a trainer and I told them I wanted a woman trainer. They tell me "well if you want to get this done as soon as you can you should go out with him." That is BS so in the end I went home. I have nothing to say nice about this company. If you do work for them they might be okay at first but will f*&^ you in the end.

Swift trucks all have opti-idle right? Why would there be an issue with idle times unless drivers are not using it.

Haven't heard anything from my terminal, or the company regarding cancelling the pet policy, I know there are drivers here that have pets. So until I hear otherwise I can't say for sure. I do dedicated, and I love it. I would have quit along time ago if I was OTR. OTR gets treated like crap for the most part, and here its like a family. Then again I am not a number(driver code) so I am well known and liked by the staff. Then again they also know that I will run my butt off, I will take loads no one else wants without complaining, and if they need someone to take a load all they have to do is ask. As for the Opti Idle on the trucks, they are trying to get it under 28% so they are trying to get people to not idle so much.. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out during the winter months...
