First of all Happy Thanksgiving !!
I hope you the best at Mercer. A step deck at Mercer will limit you. In orientation they will tell you Mercer is a FLATBED company. They will lease steps but limited freight. Also the rates at Mercer are dropping already ( so called winter rates ). My buddies are starting to take a hit on income. Deadhead is up , rates down. Having your own trailer will be much better then leasing one from Mercer.
I'm still getting over $2 a mile where I'm at now ,at least for now. Lol . At Mercer you need to learn where to stay. Learn fast or you will go broke fast.

We have recently received a new shipment of log books and want to make you aware of a change on the log page. Now there is an area in the bottom left corner that asks for your odometer reading at the beginning of each day. This information, as well as the state routes and state miles, must be filled out. Also, the recap is no longer on the inside of the front cover. It is now on a separate page in the beginning of the book. - is it me, or mercer is beginning to slide towards the pushy company? odometer readings, state routes, really?
by pushy i mean no better than the rest -
Magnum1, I think that you are not very aware of the requirements of IFTA, if you don't understand this. Check out IFTA 's web page !

I care about my family. Ifta and a lot of other scams are garbage.
I care about them as much as they pay my bills. Stop sticking your rear end out to get shafted. People get shafted so much, they actually enjoy it and think that that's how it should be. Enough is enough. You like being shafted? Well, get it doubled, take my dose too. -
Im still not making any money here. Tried to leave out Wed. and got set up on load for Sat. Morning. Come Fri. load cancled. Set up another. and cancled by around noon fri. Set up another and cancled. Finally at 4pm called in on anther that I found and my dispather went home and another dispatcher gave me the load for Monday. Just another 5 days they can't seem to move me out of Indiana. I'm sure it's a bad time of the year for flatbeding but my buddy at greatwide is really doing well this time of the year. Or probaby shouldn't ask for another dispatcher last month, which I never got.
I just would like to give it more time here since Mercer has such a good reputation and seems so organized. -
Sorry to hear that, my friend. Try taking shorter runs. Look for loads your self, as well. Keep in mind, no one will be able to do for you than what you can. May be deadhead some. I started out with the ###### van division-would have been broke by now, if I didn't switch. Plus my coordinator was a fat pig, I think he ate everything that he made. Plus, deadbeat would've been as much help As he was. I was pissing my next coordinator. He didn't like when I didn't settle for cheap paying freight. Few times I've deadheaded 1000 miles. Now, my coordinator thinks I'm the best guy that he/she had. Let them know who works for whom-if you know what I mean. -
I think that was one of my first mistakes, letting him know who works for who cause now he turns everything down, probably thinking I won't accept it. The load he set me up to wait on was over $5 mile for 123 mile run, which I love. And not necessarly his fault it cancled. Just agravating that 3 loads in a row cancled, especially after I wait a few days on the first one. But then I am sitting at home waiting not at a truck stop either.
And I am more pickier leaving out of the house.
I don't blame him or Mercer, but this time of the year flatbedding rates suck.
Though it would be nice if dispatch worked later or weekends. I know alot of brokers do give out loads on Sat. till around noon. -
Magnum1, Great attitude, you'll go far in the trucking industry. If you are actually with Mercer enjoy your time there, because it sounds from your post you won't be there long.Everything sucks but YOU!
Flightline, You're getting some tough breaks that's for sure I don't know how long you've been with Mercer but here is something that may be helpful if you don't already know it. Make sure your parameters are set the way you want them, even if you update them every couple of weeks. A contractor told me after the holidays he couldn't get offered a load, when he checked his parameters, someone had put in the computer he wouldn't roll for less than $5.00/ mile and wouldn't deadhead over fifty miles, with a FB trailer! One wrong click by a Co/disp filling in and your goose is cooked until it's corrected. Another helpful tip is your C/Disp deals with about 42 truckers daily. So if you want to follow some of the advice posted here such as it's your truck, your gonna tell them how it's gonna be. Your gonna do what you want to do when you want to do it etc, etc ,etc. you're screwed. When you work with any trucking company you work for them, that's just the way it is.
Just to share some info with you and the rest of the web, I've been home every weekend since 2 weeks before Thanksgiving,( but 1, had a load on the tlr.), Had a load sitting on the trailer to deliver on Mon or Tues. I layover 1 night during the week waiting on a load. Right now I'm on a 800 mile load (loaded thurs, home for 2 days)delivery Mon. Layover till Tues. morning,40mi. DH, load a 700 mile load, reload same day as delivery, 80 mile DH, load a 430 mi load, deliver next morning, DH 200mi. load a 700 mi load go home for 1.5 days deliver Mon. I'm not bragging or trying to make anyone feel bad, it could all end tomorrow, but that's what I've been doing. I might ad that if I go to Louisville the only person who would know my name or recognize me is my CO/disp. I've been with Mercer for a very short time. I don't enjoy pulling 8 ft tarps but I don't whine if I have to. I also make a point of staying away from whining, complaining, malcontents. Negativity only breeds more negativity.
I'll now turn the floor over to the people I avoid, to tell me I'm a liar, it's all BS, I'm an butt kisser etc. I drink Mercer KoolAid. I know it's coming. Any way Flightline, Good Lucksgt slaughter Thanks this. -
You've just told more about your self and took the stand for your believes. Those who can read between the lines will agree.

High Seas.
Please explain setting the parameters? I am not fimliar with this. Is this something I can see and do online or is it with my corr/dispatcher? I've been told about a few notes in the computer but that's all.
I know when I click on a load and submit wanting it offered, it usually shows up as refused.
I'm thinking you might be on to something here, but I don't know how to access the parrameters so please explain.
