Right. I was just trying to get the word out that 5k was the brightest, truest white before the light started to blue.

Were on the same page. Just unfortunately had different experiences with the same product.

I probably know more about the "why" than you do, if I find time tonight I'll go into the technical reasons.

For now, tell me the orientation of the arc in relation to the reflector in your replacements. Save me having to waste time wading through the bs to try and find it later.

Why HID kits are a bad idea

This is one of the best articles about the issue.

A reflector has focal point, and the positioning of the light source is critical...
The highlight below is mine, but is the largest issue with "kits."

If, and that's a big if; you managed to get the arc of an HID kit in the exact same location as the element of a halogen bulb, the characteristics of the arc light source would still have a detrimental effect on the efficiency of the reflectors. All the shields in the world will not correct for bright spots being in the wrong position within the reflector, and while you might get a bearable pattern with such a (non-existent) HID bulb, glare will be a problem.

Sometimes there just isn't an easy way!

I do agree with you 80%. however, with some of the flimsy designs, like the vnl series, need the hid aftermarket kit, in order to be able to see ok at night. Plus, when compared to the hid factory headlight , the aftermarket kit produces slight glare in the non oem headlights.

It's like removing egr and vgt out from the motors. Somebody can always come up with the reason why it should not be done. However, I did it, I'm happy with it and not going back to the oem set up. The same with the hid. There are other people that will Agree with me. I will not take the hid kits out of anything that I've installed and put in the oem bulbs. - not happening.
You can find all the reasons you want, if I feel better and see better, and drive better - it ain't going anywhere out of its spot. If the government doesn't like it, make the manufacturers design the product that will be able make the road visible and engines run better and longer. If these products are not produced from the factory then, the aftermarket will take matters into their own hands and make things better. Same thing with the red fuel - just add the correct product and red is gone.
