I am scheduled to start with Boyd on the 3rd of January. I am the type of person that likes to have all things in order. I am going over the list that was sent to me and will have everything with me to the letter. I was just wondering if there is anything else that may be helpful to bring paperwork wise or gear? Since I am new to the industry so I am going on my army experience and trying to bring everything i can think of to be prepared. As it works out I am going to be with a guy that graduated from the same school and seems we are on the same bus to bama so i plan on passing on the info. thanks in advance and look forward to becoming part of the team!

I actually found it in the handbook under "avoiding service failures" it lists a policy that says if you bring home a load on the weekend you must arrive at your consignee by midnight sunday night. Since I regularly go home with a load that delivers 400+ miles from home, this eliminates sundays off. Not to mention real life 34 hr restarts. I talked to wade and roger almost 2 weeks ago now and nothing has happened. Ive called up there 3 times. After they heard from me once they stopped answering or returning my calls.

Im on paper logs. I would prefer to not be held strictly to arriving by midnight. As long as im delivering on time and always doing my assigned loads without refusing any or having any issues, idk what the problem is.

ok so on jan 2 I was late to a delivery due to a tanker spilling fuel and shutting down the interstate. I called night disp and told them 12 hours in advance. My dispatcher ignored my calls then sent me a message saying I was getting a service failure and I wasnt going home that w/e. I went straight to cincinnati and talked to the terminal manager who caller my dispatcher and told her the road was closed and there was no way i could deliver. she didnt care. and she did keep me out that w/e. she said its my responsibility to know the road conditions and plan each trip accordingly. I called Wade to get another disp. He said either himself or Roger would call me back later. no one called. I called the next day and left a message. Then the next. Then I called Roger who said he would take care of it and call me back monday. never heard from him again. so i found another job and sent in today that this will be my last week and i need to be in Bham this w/e to get my car. She said she hopes i found a local job since thats the only way Ill get home like i want, but the only complaint I have is about her telling me what time to leave the house and micromanaging everything I do then punishing me when something happens that i didnt do. anyway then not surprisingly she sent me a load going to houston and told me to go straight to Bham and turn in my truck. This is the first company ive ever worked for that cut my notice short and sent me on my way. This place is very prideful. they are the best and if you cant see that, good riddance

never received a single phone call from anyone at boyd asking me why im leaving after just 6 months. last place i worked for 7 years but boyd bros couldnt really care less why a driver would quit. oh and just for a little heads up in case anyone plans on quitting here, they hold your last paycheck for a week even though they take a $400 security deposit from you when you start. then when you do get paid a week later, they send a paper check in the mail instead of direct deposit. so you better save up before you quit so you can go 2.5 weeks without your last paycheck. i had some trips i scanned last wednesday that i thought i would get today, even if they did want to hold the ones i scanned this past tuesday when i turned in the truck. ive been driving since 2003 and this is my 4th company, but its the only one i just cant recommend to anyone with experience. if youre a new driver, sure. not a bad place to start, but anyone that has options, think long and hard about the freedom of driving a truck and what it means to plan your trip on your own and to have at least a little say so of what you think is fair without fear of being fired in orientation. about half the people in orientation dont make it through. this is due more to boyd not screening prospective employees than it is the peoples fault. most companies check everything before they invite you to quit your job and come aboard then all thats left is road test and drug screen. from day one boyd gives you the sense that you should be honored that they would hire you rather than them being honored to have a qualified driver. they make you wear your 2 day old boyd shirt after youve been talked down to by david for a few days and go into the video meeting and tell the execs how thankful you are to work here and why you chose boyd. kneel down and pucker up. im just surprised at the experience i had after all the research i put in to find a good company and all the great reviews i found. im easy going and a friend to everyone and i almost never find myself being treated badly because of that. but im especially disappointed in the lack of concern for me when i put in my notice. i did everything i was ever asked without a single complaint. i always took the time to thank my dispatcher when she helped me out, despite the static i received from her regularly. but in the end, what they care about is getting your truck serviced so they can have someone else in it by next monday. the lack of concern is unmatched by any place ive ever worked. trucking or not

I have noticed something, besides the FM, holding your paycheck sounds like something Wade would do, I DO NOT like that guy. Last time he bad mouthed me on idle(Didn't have a APU.) 2 drivers had to hold me back BY THE ARMS, Wade was about to get his block KNOCKED OFF.

Best part, this was at my million mile party and he congratulated me, 15 minutes later he runs his mouth. If Gale was there, but she was visiting her daddy, or has we call him, Granddad. So was Chris, if either of those 2 watched what happened Wade would be JOBLESS.

Sounds to me like your fm just used that as an excuse becuz he/she didn't have a load to get u home and didn't want to do the work to find swap. I found out the hard way ALWAYS SEND A MESSAGE WITH BOYD. They like to lie and pretend they never received phone calls. Oh yeah Betty Jo. I've had words with her. :biggrin_25516:

Boyd is turning into another trucking conglomerate. Drivers are disposable assets to them. Thirty new sheep every week in class. Wade actually told a 15 year vet that if he didn't like it then quit over some minor bs. If you've been here long enough you know the story. If Dempsey Boyd was still coherent he'd be throwing a fit. Well driver good luck to ya.
