is 350 a week normal?

So because grandma uses a POS GPS means they're all going to be wrong? I don't think so. I use one every day in the truck. Never had a problem with it. Not once. If using a GPS means I 'rely too much on technology' then I guess I'm just going to have to learn to live with that.

You old timers might be shocked to learn that I also choose to live in a house with indoor plumbing and electricity. I know its not the way they did it when you were a kid and I guess it means I rely too much on technology but what can I say, I live on the edge.

 

yes tools do back up each other.but you need the foundation first.a spade and backhoe are a bit diffrent than knowing how to read a map.if you have never seen a map b4 or know how to read one the gps will do you no good.master the atlas and it will give you the tools to master the gps.without knowing anything about the atlas and mapping,you would then not know when the gps is wrong.

only thing a backhoe does is make digging the whole quicker,spade or backhoe you will end up with the same result 1 just takes longer.

 

aww thats cute.but the fact is if you never read a map or was taught how to navigate a map and read it.the gps would be useless to you.i know you were atleast taught the basics of map reading..hench you have a cdl.

 

when someone says that"too dependent on technology"all they are saying is don't forget the foundation it was built from.meaning say the world went dark,no electric no fuel,no power.the things like gps would'nt do you any good.now if you only use the gps and don't master what was b4 it then 1 day you will be f'd when that time comes.in other words one should'nt ever ONLY depend on 1 thing.

i don't think they mean it as an insult.

I think that's what YOU mean when you say it. When some of these other guys say it, I think they're really saying 'I don't really understand the technology enough to be comfortable with it and since I know more than you, i.e. I think you're stupid, that means you can't possibly be able to use it safely'.

 

How many wannabe posts have you seen lately that say "Low pay is o.k. " ?

 

i am sure some do mean it that way.but that would be a lack of understanding on their part.alot can be lost in quick posts.only a fraction of ones view comes through in a post most of the time.

 

to a bfi trucking company a new inexperienced driver is very VERY expendable! just a seat filler in all honesty. THIS is the reason most say stick with it. With one year under your belt at 1 company, you will be more valuable assets to both your company & others. Witout that one year most of the places you go will still start you at the bottom as inexperienced/student & may indeed make you go back out with their trainer @ start, for a whole new mounth of training & training pay.
if you are not trying to be home every weekend, & can figure a way to communicate clearly & in a way that will aide both the DM & LP in their jobs then you will tend to get loads faster & possibly work your way into the loads with more open miles between stops.
Your DM & LP are key as is your attitude and willingness to be available for any available load. Look on here for some tips, but calling you LP &/or your DM an hour or two prior to arrival @ destination will definitely get you loads quicker then drivers that wait till they arrive to make contact. That lil extra time gives them the opportunity to get every thing lined up quicker>>> its not really quicker, you are just getting them to start on your next load sooner= less waiting


BIG TIP You will not change a bfi's policies, the best you can do is find a way to make them work for you. Find the drivers that are making that company work and ask them tips.

I hope all gets better, but this is what the majority go thru their first few months as they settle into the industry. Everyone really is just saying to stay for the 1st year so you can get to the point where you can choose a company instead of having to hope on chooses you.

 

This thread has slowly become the GPS vs Atlas discussion ... or the I'm new here & I know more than you discussion ... any other suggestions on the title change?
