I'm not sure I want to share the road with someone who lacks depth perception. I sure hope that's a thorough DOT physical!

Thanks for the encouragement chompi - we want to do roughly the same thing: work 5-10 years to get the capital we need to start an organic farm/homestead.
To further clarify on the lack of depth perception, she has the same eye condition Babe Ruth had (she's had 1 out of 2 corrective surgeries she needs). Both eyes appear perfectly normal but she only focuses and sees through one at a time, limiting her depth of field. So, like Babe Ruth, she judges an object's distance based on its size (coincidentally, she was pretty good @ batting in softball).
I realize I could have probably gotten the answers to all these questions from some phone calls so thanks for being patient with me, guys and gals. -
Don't give up on the passenger option. My company allows you to take anyone as a passenger, you just have to get a rider pass and pay an extra $35/month for insurance.
That being said a truck, even a condo cab, will get small after a while. I take my gf with me sometimes and after a week with her in such constant close proximity I find myself thinking about pulling away from the truck stop while she's in the restroom...I love her a lot but I have found relationships thrive on some time apart. Just my experience. -
C'mon dude, don't encourage him. His girl has no depth perception!!!! That'd be just great. Her driving down the highway not knowing how far away the innocent family in front of her is. I stay OTR to get away from my wife.
-
I've given that thought but I think I'll find her invaluable in the truck because she's big on pulling her weight (so she'll be handling cleaning, meal planning/cooking and such).
Here's the kicker - we have a 65lbs dog too. Though we do have places to keep him (parents, etc), he will most likely be with us (he's great on long trips, just lays down and sleeps for hours when we drive from FL to SC).
Another question, will 6-7 years of delivering pizza w/o any @ fault accidents (got rear-ended in '08) be a boon to my job prospects or is it inconsequential? -
She does drive a car without killing people, fella, and I explained in a followup post that she measures distance of objects based on their size - I was more asking if her eye condition would count her out on medical grounds (the same way as it does for an insulin-dependent diabetic).
I wanted to know upfront so that a trucking school doesn't just take her money for training and then pocket it after running her medical history - a conman at a school in NC did something similar to my mentally handicapped uncle. -
The delivery part is inconsequential but the time spent there will be good.
Just keep in mind that a passenger is costing you money. -
Driving a car and driving an 80,000 pound truck down the road are two totally different things. If she is unable to judge distance acurately and quickly she will not have the proper response time to safely drive a truck. Delivering pizzas shouldn't be considered driving experience and will not be looked at as driving experience. If someone is looking for a front-end loader operator they're not gonna hire somebody because they know how to use a shovel.
