It sucks that girl died but it's up to every individual person to know that if you are texting while driving you can be killed. The goverment dosen't need to make laws- people just need to wake up or become a statistic.

I had always had text service blocked on all my cell plans until last spring. Since then, I've found it to be an especially useful way to communicate with people while I'm unloading my pneumatic tank...the blower is too dang loud to carry on a phone conversation. It is also an EXCELLENT way to snap a quick pic of a broken part & send it to a few shops to see if they have the right part in stock before you limp/tow the truck to them or have them bring the wrong part out to you.

It has it's productive uses...but like anything else, it can be abused. Diverting your attention away from your responsibilities while driving is stupid...doesn't matter if it is to send a quick text, swap CD's in the player, look at a map, etc...

this might sound mean but im guessing she wasnt college material,if she was she would have used her brain and not been texting in the first place while she was driving.I see this to many times everyday, ppl texting going down the highway swerving all over the place in and out of lanes, you do know you look like a complete ####### right? Not to mention the lives you take and the ones who are left behind to suffer?
Wake up ppl.Its a law, plain and simple, learn to follow it.

The laws are already there in many State's. However, most are unenforceable until involved in a wreck. I'll give you an example. I pull beside someone and see them doing something with a phone. IO stop them, they tell me they were dialing a number. I can't take their phone in my State and look to see what they were doing unless I have a search warrant. Now let's flip it around. I'm investigating a fatal wreck. I now subpeona the phone records before and after the crash from the cell phone company or seize the phone and get a search warrant. A lot of these laws have no teeth inmany instances.

It is the truck drivers fault.

He had a phone inside the truck, so the fault is there.:biggrin_25526:

Now what will Ray Lahood want.
