I just called these fools up this past week about a advertisement I saw in the paper, and I got a automated machine and left a message and got no reply...I am glad I read this post, it was short and simple so they must be a mess to work for. I know now not to waste my time.

They were my first big truck job and I can tell you that if you like having a safe truck to run in, don't work for them. They do their repair work in house and that was the reason I left. They paid well as I was making $1100 a week to haul Lexus parts from the Toyota PDC in NJ to dealerships in PA and DE overnight, but when you are by yourself with no one to help you in case something goes wrong, it can get hairy. The lift gate on my trailer kept dropping suddenly a few inches or sometimes would get stuck mid lift and I would be stuck with a rolling cage with a transmission on it or something like that with a 2-4 hr wait for a repair truck. The last straw for me was when it happened to me on the very first delivery in the winter with snow on the ground after I had written the thing up about 15 times and been promised that it would be fixed. I called the driver who had taken the truck out on a holiday run the previous weekend (Thanksgiving weekend) and he said the lift dropped about a foot with him and a trans on it suddenly. He had to jump out of the way because the cage with a trans in it almost fell on top of him which might have killed him. Mind you are delivering in the middle of the night with NO ONE at the dealership to help you so he would have been on his own for about 12 hrs until they opened up again. I managed to get the lift gate back up after about 2 hrs and took the truck back to the PDC and called ACT the next morning and told them I quit.
There was also a time where I went with another driver on a drop and hook up to CT. His tractor had a hole between the passenger door and the door jamb where you could clearly see out of the truck. Not to mention the seatbelt didn't work. Did I mention that they tried to withhold my last check because I didn't give them back their 3 t-shirts with the ACT logo on them? T-SHIRTS!!! Don't get me wrong, the money was great, I was home daily and the run was reasonable though tiring but if you don't take care of the equipment, none of that matters. I'm not trying to die in anyones truck.

    Freddie Thanks this.

Its refreshing to see truckers warning each other about companies, like ACT, but as someone who worked for them driving straight truck the reports of poorly maintained trucks is true. When you're running a route with lots of large hills in the winter and can't rely on the brakes, worries about the alternate method of braking tend to be about the condition of the clutch. It took two months to get the brakes replaced, and the truck that I got to use had mirrors that made someone with Parkinson's appear less shaky. Just a thought....
