Hi all.
I am an experienced driver heading to orientation on 1/23/2012.
What can i expect while in orientation. Please just the facts. (no hearsay)
I need to know will I have to do another application even though I have completed one online?
I will be running the northeast region. what can I expect from that ie miles
driver managers etc.
I do not have a problem holding driver managers accountable for the miles or anything else.
Who are the good D.M's and who are the bad D.M's.
I realize that we as drivers need to stick together. We also have to hold the bad D.M's accountable.
Do they have too many drivers on the same account? Are they being trained properly?
Do they have D.M's that come from other companies and bring their bad habits with them?
Are the Drivers being treated with respect?
We as Drivers need to know these things before we can make a decision.
I do not want a bad D.M and would like to know this up front, so if anyone out there can help me on this it will be greatly appreciated.
I don't know about you guy's, but I have been around long enough to
not except business as usual and be expected to believe that it is o.k.
Thanks -
You will need todo another app I believe northeast I'd say 2200 miles max kind of limiting yourself by doing n e as far as dm it's pretty much your rep and relationship with them pretty fair for the most part except you'll notice wait time more on nights and weekends as far as the respect goes its a two way street idk what to tell you as far as that idk what your expectations are but great equipment e logs might want to bring your power inverter with you get it installed as soon as you get ur truck I know they were cutting drivers down on the dollar tree account but mostly lazy ones it is a very respectable company everyone is respectable don't expect to get a call when you're sleeping like " hey jerk off were the ufck are you" lol nothing like that with my experience

I would give you the name of the bad FM I had but I'm pretty sure she got fired. I had the impression she was brand spanking new with no experience. My current one does a great job but he's teams.
I don't really recall filling out an app again, but I did bring all that info with me.
I wasn't satisfied with my solo miles so I switched to teams. I wasn't running dedicated or regional though. They pretty much just kept me east of 35. There was a lot of short runs then waiting for another load.
You mentioned accounts. Are you doing a dedicated run? -
I do know as of right now it will be the north east region. I was also wondering if they had any runs to the south. I wouldn't mind running dedicated but I do not want to do the driver unloads with putting the freight an rollers. Been there done that.
I have spoken to a recruiter(headhunter). I listen to his speech and went right to a contact in a office, and got the facts.
The last time I listened to a recruiter I was in Paris Island.
So far the offer isn't signed until I complete orientation.
I just don't want bad D.M's contributing to the turnover rate anymore. I also want to know if these D.M's have too many people on the account? How many do they really need and why so many?
We need to manage them too.
thanks for reading and listening.
I will post what I see in orientation. -
Actually in Feb they are restructuring their whole system. We will have one DM who takes care of things like payroll problems, etc. Loads will be dispatched out of 5 regions with FM's devoted to those regions.
I think the Fm's had too many trucks to deal with. You keep mentioning accounts but the only people on actual accounts are dedicated. What I mean is we have an account like, say, Amazon or Fedex, but there aren't trucks and fleet managers dedicated to that specific account. -
I. C... I think they are finally realizing where the problems are and decided to do something about it. Do they have any dedicated accounts that are driver unloads?
those are the ones I would like to stay away from. I just want to get with a good D.M
and go from there.
In the past we had D.M's that had over booked the accounts and caused a huge turnover. drivers were leaving every 90 day's. They had incentives where they didn't belong. The D.M's got an incentive for every driver that they brought onto the account. Little did they know that others had to leave the account. They were forced out with an entry made on their dac. We in turn had to notify the powers to be and let them know what was going on and how it was affecting the account, because it was going to be lost. This was one of the accounts that you don't loose.
Well what happened was the D.M got canned and by the time we got this info to the upper management, it was too late.. because it was going on way before I had arrived there.
It's simple accountability, and this nonsense has to stop, no company should have to endure a high turnover rate as in the transportation industry.
