I'm parked here at the TA in New Braunfels, TX waiting to pick up in Austin in the AM. I've been watching the fun as drivers pick off the parking spots one by one.
One driver in a flatbed was backing into a spot and started ######## over the radio at a MVT driver with his headlights on. The kicker was the driver doing the ######## had his headlights on as well. I watched that flatbed pass by several times before he took that spot and he never turned his lights off for other drivers backing in.
Some drivers and their headlights...

I don't turn my lights off until I am parked.
I don't understand why some drivers do, I have never been blinded by headlights when I am backing. Headlights shining on my truck don't bother me either, probably because I have the curtains closed.Gizmo_Man Thanks this. -
It's a courtesy thing. You don't really need headlights to back up. I usually get into position then flip down to my markers. (plus flashers)dirtyjerz, Gizmo_Man, American-Trucker and 5 others Thank this.

As was previously replied, it's a courtesy thing. Just because you may not have an issue w/headlights shining at your truck while you are backing doesn't mean it does not bother me or Treefork, for example.

It's a safety thing....leave your headlights on, they really don't shine in the other cabs that much.
Gizmo_Man Thanks this. -
I could care less if a truck leaves their lights on while backing. What ever they need to get that job done safely.
But, once your safely backed in. SHUT OFF YOUR #### LIGHTS!Lonesome, Raiderfanatic, Onetruckpony and 3 others Thank this. -
Agree.......On my truck anytime the brakes are released the dang headlights come on....Not a feature i care for.
I had one parked straight across from me the other night, headlights and fog lights on....Glad i have the front curtains! -
I turn my headlights off as soon as I turn into a truck stop. I do it without even thinking about it. I leave my running lights on. I don't see where it's not safe.

If they are off while you back in, where exactly is the safety issue? You should have your markers and four ways on when backing anyway, so you are readily visible to other drivers and they know you are backing.

i will add once your parked leave your marker lights on it esp if not in a brightly lit area, it makes it easier for the truck backing in next to you later. esp if your one of them drivers that can never seem to park straight.
