Actually I did become my own boss. The really great thing about the US is that it is still the land of opportunity. You have the opportunity to succeed, fail or let everyone else tell you what to do and then sit around and complain about it. The United States wasn't built by special interest groups, it was built by individuals who wanted a better life, took a chance and made it happen. Just remember almost all those companies you complain about started as one person and one truck. You can do the same.
I'm not saying there aren't a lot of bad companies. I'm not saying that warning other drivers about those bad companies is wrong. I'm not blaming the victim when bad things happen. What I am saying is that you hold the ability to make your life better.

Preacher Man, you started off on the right track but you got derailed , not to many drivers understand whats going on with regards to CSA . Its not so much the fault of the drivers , it mostly the fault of FMCSA and Corprate America . Please understand , I am not bashing you in any way . But I have spent countless hours researching and looking at CSA . there are so many things involved with it . You all need to understand that CSA has NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH SAFETY .I have explained this and talked about it for so long that I just cant do it anymore .Some people have opened their eyes and now see what is really happening but most will not .
What I will tell you is this , its all about cheap labor ,in the name of greed . if people were to take the time to look at all of the things that are happening to us drivers they will see it plain as day . When drivers go from job to job, most of the time its because they are looking for ,good pay , good working conditions and respect . And those things in just about any industry are a thing of the past .pathfinder1361 Thanks this. -
Corporate greed, give me a break. I bet you use the catch phrase of "spread the wealth" also don't you?
I ask again, if companies are so greedy, and so evil, why aren't you simply running your own? Oh yea, never mind, because it isn't that simple.
When you have a bunch of trucks (nice new ones), and are paying all the drivers $100k, let me know! -
For those of you who think that if you have a good CSA score , that you will be in demand , you better think again . You may be in demand but your pay will stay the same , There are companies out here who will close their doors before they pay drivers a good wage , they will simply close their doors and take their milions and hide if off shore and look for something else to make a profit on .CSA allows companies to have a constant flow of fresh , out of school, inexperienced drivers , who they can justify paying .27 .29 cpm . when those drivers mess up , out the door they go and there is a another one waiting . Get the picture ? For those who have been around . they want you gone . Why pay you 48cpm when they can pay 29cpm
Ever wonder why so many of these "big" carriers are not raising hell about CSA ? think about it .Ever wonder why so many new drivers to a company get all the miles ??? come on people , this is not rocket science .pathfinder1361 Thanks this. -
So they weren't paying .28cpm to new drivers before CSA? So there wasn't a constant flow of fresh new drivers before CSA?
It's actually being forecasted that driver pay will increase because of CSA. Did you read that in all you supposedly readings on CSA?
Conservative to the Bone.
R.I.P. Ron Paul 2012. Hahaha!!! -
You are so far off base...
First of all, if a company is greedy and out to screw the driver, they will also not close their doors. Their greed will drive them to make more.
Most trucking companies are small ma and pa operations. They don't have 'millions' to hide and the only off shore they know about is the fishing charter they couldn't take because they had to work.
There are a few mega carriers, but they aren't hiding money in the Caymens either.
You have never been in business, apparently. But let me tell you first hand, when you've sweat blood for years, building your 'baby', you feel the 'right' to make more money than your employees.
Your employees get paid what they agreed to for all the hours or miles.
You, the owner, on the other hand, work nights, weekends, holidays, and every other time. You sweat bullets worrying about the receivables, payables, cash flow.
You are the one losing sleep when your lawyer tells you that the actions of one of your employees has just endangered all you have spent years building.
And you are the one constantly fighting the government crap that keeps you from concentrating on your business to begin with.
No...I wouldn't expect an employee to understand. When you are an owner, you pour chemicals differently!
The fact of the matter is, right now, the economy sucks! Most (small) businesses are struggling to survive.
Most large businesses are struggling to stay ahead of the curve.
Put your huevos on the line for every dollar borrowed, every employee action and every government misdeed and see if YOU don't think you should make more money than your workers.
Most of us see the fruit of someone's many years of sweat. We don't see the sleepless nights, the missed (owners) paychecks, the crap that virtually all owners go thru before they are successful.
We only see the cadillac or Hawaiian vacation.
Quit your beefin'. It's not a bunch of greedy big business owners.
It's your neighbors, friends and relatives.
If you think it's so easy..go ahead. Knock yourself out!rogueunh, Gearjammin' Penguin, Stoney and 3 others Thank this. -
Let me raise my hand as one of those who is making money. I'm not getting rich, but my head is above water. If I take out my truck payment, my profit ratio is where it should be. If leaving the US works for you and was an option, great. Then you have those of us who are still here working our way around all the obstacles and somehow succeeding anyway.
As far as CSA and drivers, I have to disagree that this is bad for drivers. In time it will drive rates and pay higher. In the past drivers have been hung out to dry on inspections, but now companies are also being held responsible. We are also starting to see accident lawyers go after shippers who use carriers with poor scores. Just follow the money. Shippers want companies with good scores so they don't get sued. Carriers with good scores need good drivers with experience who know how to do proper inspections. Experienced drivers are going to look for better working conditions and better pay. It may take years, but we already see it beginning.
On a personal note, I find conspiracy theories fun and entertaining, but usually fall apart if you look too closely.kid_cardiac, Stoney, Mr Ed and 1 other person Thank this. -
You really think he's going to tell you? The truth, at least?
I don't think so.Stoney Thanks this. -
