Like metric said, it's the contacts on the sending unit just worn through. Of course you can't buy just the electronic board to repair it. You gotta buy the whole shebang.

You might have to turn your tank to pull the sending unit/float due to cab floor too close.

is that because is a long piece that goes down the tank, or to use tools right on top of it? sorry but never pulled one before so have no idea what it is/looks.

It's the flush one. They are usually about $50 for a brand new one. Make sure your cab air bags are aired up and you can usually maneuver it in without turning the tank. At least I've been able to in all of my trucks. In fact, before I turned a tank, I'd try jacking up the cab few inches to see if it'll clear then.

Years ago I had a Ford powerstroke that had the fuel gauge in one tank start acting goofy. It acted that way for a few months and on a hunch, I added some 2stroke oil to the fuel in that tank thinking that it was a lubrication issue. The gauge started reading correctly and, for the next couple years that I owned the truck, it never missed a beat. I now have an '06 WS and the gauge in it is acting goofy, same as you describe. I added some 2 stroke oil to the left tank (the one with the sender) and it SEEMS to be fine. However, I haven't use the truck enough to draw a positive conclusion. Sending units are cheap and easy to change but adding 2 stroke is cheaper and easier. You may want to give it a try first.

ok so i messed a little with the sensor unit on the left tank (the tanks that kinda worked) i cleaned it and tighten the grounds, but now that tank is dead. So both tanks are death!! Am i still looking at the same problem? or could this be something else since this happened?

I didnt pull the sending unit out or anything, i just cleaned the screws with a wire brush and tighten the connections thats all. and now it isnt working..

You can check your wiring with a digital voltmeter and your senders with an ohmmeter. If you don't have those, you might get some help from someone who has them.
