If your truck is out of service, get them to pay the major part of a rental truck fee, and you pay the mileage and fuel.

I may not be very knowledgable in the trucking world but I have dealt with a fair amount of insurance issues in my time. The insurance adjuster's job is to try and get you to take as little as possible. Saving the company money. You pay your insurance company a premium every month. Even though the other company is doing the pay out your insurance should take some responsibility since its what THEY do on a daily basis.
Just like in all aspects of business, cover your own butt. Like others have said give some documentation that can show what your daily wage would be if were running loads. Do not settle for a no. Keep moving up the ladder if they won't help you. If you worked for 10bucks an hour and someone broke your leg and couldnt work. Would you accept 5 bucks an hour as compensation? No of course not so why accept less for a daily wage claim.
Stand your ground!
Just my 2 cents -
I see what the problem is. You are dealing with an insurance adjuster broker and he is taking a cut. I bet he also told you that was the going backhaul daily rate.
