There are many tax advantages to a Lease Operator that are not reflected in any of these numbers. The only accurate way to look at 'income' is to look at your previous year after all the accounting has been done. Taking a snapshot of a week or a month is inaccurate, look at it as a business owner, 3 months should be the minimum snapshot. January is probably the worst month to use as an income indicator as a truck driver.

Woke up today thankful to have a job and thankful for good health. I am learning more and more about the trade daily, and in turn loving it each day that much more. So I had a rough week......its in my past, looking forward now. Ran 580 miles yest, felt great to actually have foot to pedal all day. Woke up this morning and ran the remaining 250 off this load, delivers at 0400 tom at Walmart im las lunes NM.
My wife reminded me that each day we wake up our first few thoughts of the day will truely affect its outcomes, make them positive thoughts and be rewarded with a positive day......yeah she is a good one.
Be safe drivers cross your fingers the good loads keep coming, god knows the rent man wants his money....lol. Be safe, SHIFTY.

Sounds like you're on the right track! I always tell drivers "if you have a bad week, look at the month. If you have a bad month, look at the last year" same goes for the day/week too. Everything going to be cool. Stevens is going through a lot of changes right now too, on top of January being slow as crap.... many drivers going E logs, a new system that seems to be kinda retarded to boot. They'll work the bugs out and January/February is close to being in the rearview.

    TLeaHeart Thanks this.

OK, let me get this straight ...
You'd be better off making .26 cpm minus taxes rather than .33 cpm minus taxes?
Is this the new math? :biggrin_2552:

    Dryver and TLeaHeart Thank this.

Why is his maintenance account so high? And seems like some bad MPG.

@Corporal If your're a lease operator, supposed to be making $0.85 cents per mile, however, after all deductions are only clearing $0.33 cents, aren't you, in essence, a "company driver" getting paid a few cents more?

@DUJO Unless I mistaked the number, someone a few pages back quoted $0.15 cpm as being the "maintenance fund"

my maintenance account is $0.045 cents per mile. that is 4 1/2 cents per mile not 15 cents per mile.

I make more as a lease driver than I would as a company driver.

I guess I looked and saw. 15cpm maintenance for an alliance driver and thought that was super high. I do keep mine at that rate, but I'm able to take from it or turn it off/on when I want. Thats all I was saying.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the input in this thread. I read about the first 30 pages before realizing it was going to take me all week to finish, lol. I have an issue that I hope someone can give me advice on...

So I've recently gone through some drastic life changes and have become very interested in becoming a trucker and became interested in Steven's right away based on my research. Unless someone convinces me otherwise, I'm going to be enrolling in the local school run through the community college/International Schools (proud member of CVTA) for a 200 hr course starting Feb. 6

Reading this thread began to scare me however when I got to the issues some people were having with furnishing w-2's proving I've made at least $13k a year for the past 3 years... in 2011 I didn't work AT ALL. Wasn't on unemployment... have no good reason for this lapse in work time... was basically just living off cash I'd made the previous few years (but won't be able to provide any kind of documentation for this).

Am I screwed? Not just for Steven's specifically, but for the trucking industry in general? I'm tired of doing nothing and ready to work hard... is there no place for people like me in the trucking industry?

Anybody with any kind of advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch. Jealous of you guys who have successfully started your trucking careers.. it was fun to read about.
