Not if the pick up has the gvwr rating and the trailer is a fifth wheel type, AB rescriction is only if he can,t use AB nothing there means hes good, i seen a farmer do this before, a fifth wheel gives him full class A in california at least, tag suck. :)

I must say sorry i never could spell restricted correctly, if it does not require chains between the tow vechile and towed vessel in Ca, its considered full Class A, anything else in non comm class A as i understand it at least, thats the Ca way.

In Indiana he would get a semi restriction.

In TX airbrakes are written test first for permit, then on driving test must show instructor your knowledge by doing leak down test. If you show up for drive without a/b then one part of test can't be done, sounds like lazy examiner.

If he took the written A/B test, and passed it, his has A/B. Therefore, no restriction.

The pre-trip is an entirely separate test.

Its been a day sence i took my test, but youre right, at dmv one does do the in cab air test, cola backwards i beleave its called, but if his ex boss was cerified to test him then he is not complying to regs, so only the op knows for sure if hes legal.

Thats the same way it is here in mn (original poster) I think the person who entered it did it wrong or made a goof. I looked back at the permit for that test and sure enough in the restriction box L and K= intrastate {wasnt 21 at the time) and K airbrakes. I remember the tester he was pretty nice actually. Sorry my boss was not the guy doing the test sorry for the confusion 104
