I will be looking to upgrade my truck, since it will no longer be allowed in California after 2014. My question is, is there a decent motor out there that doesn't use DEF? I refuse to buy that stuff and I don't really want anything that has a regen unit on it so, what are my options? Any Ideas would be appreciated!

the only US sold truck w/o DEF is the International Maxforce engines that are all EGR, and from everything I have read, they don't seem to have all the bugs worked out.

They use designed by MAN advanced EGR. But really EGR is not the weak point of this engine. Really weak are injectors and DBV valve (hight pressure reg. valve).

it is not all, with summer fuel this engine is low temperature sencetive. Starts and stalls with high pressure fault codes, till you boil some water and spill it on DBV, filter unit and low pressure pump.

Avoid California and keep the truck you've got. Their old truck ban is interference with interstate commerce anyway, so I will be very disappointed if that isn't struck down by the federal court system between now and 2014.
