Western Star

I normally get those numbers right at 64 mph. It starts to drop at 66 and at 70 I am right at around 6.7 mpg. And these numbers are for a roughly 25 - 30 thousand pound load. Most stuff I pull is right around 20,000 lbs or less in the vans.

Now running out west, with a head wind at 70 mph I am under 6 mpg, but never under 5. It is all in how you drive it. My last IFTA, 2nd quarter this year, was 6.75 mpg. But that was pulling my Conestoga. 106" wide with sails for sides. The dry vans are a nice switch, fuel mileage wise, over my wagon. And those running West numbers are with my Conestoga. I am sure I could do much better with a dry van.

You can not get a new Western Star with a Cummins engine in it. You can get an older one with a cummins in it. Western Star stopped using Cummins engines a few years back over a civil disagreement. I won't go into details about it. But for 2010 They will offer Cummins engines once again.

am running a 4964 glider.have 14liter pre egr reman engine,rtlo18918 ,23-190 rear with 2.69 ratio,air lift tag, on 455/55-22.5 s.s. runs 1450 rpm at 65 mph in 16th{direct] this is the best drivetrain i've ever had. pulls super, 6.5 loaded to 80000, 8 mpg mt.

 

Where were you able to get a Star glider? Did you order it and have it put together yourself, or did you buy it pre-assembled?

 

ordered truck with reman 14 liter from factory, tsi western star in north jackson oh put the rest of it together with reman parts

 

I have a 2004 4900EX Lowmax with a MBN C15 that has a Bully Dog programmer, 13spd and 3.55 rears. I like thetruck, it runs like a beast and eats fuel too!!!!

I am avg 5.7mpg pulling a stepdeck (5.2mpg when loaded with 46,000# of plate steel on flat roads) and avg between 60-63mph

 

Well if u know how to drive a CAT unlike some of the idiots on here (not calling u guys idiots but some people on here dont know how to drive) and a 18 speed we ran 65 to 70 mph and got 7.0 mpg with a twin turbo acert 550hp cat she pulled good and got 7.0 mpg.
