Two. Even the greatest shooter can make a mistake and you don't want the animal to suffer.

For the record, mine is a bolt action Weatherby.

I love my 700 BDL .300 Win Mag but then my HK-91A2 will take out a bunch in short order.

The biggest game we have around here is elk. A .308 is more than adequate for that. With my arthritis, is about all the bang I can handle anyway. Too brushy for longer shots requiring more power. I like the flat trajectory of the .308. More predictable.

The Weatherby, coupled with a Tasco wide angle scope, enables me to be accurate to 650 yards. 300 yards is really all I need.

I'm originally from Washington and have shot elk there and moose in Alaska. But I live in Texas now and a .308 is a little over kill as far as I'm concerned. My Ruger #1 .25-06 is perfect for the small deer we have here and the ferrel hogs if you don't trap them. I've got a Freedom Arms model 83 .454 Casull that would do great with a scope.

    One shot, one kill, right?

    1s1k is the idea.

Who do you think taught me how to shoot and influenced my choice of long gun?

    Ex husband was Army.

35K and 67N. Mostly Hueys, 58's and Cobras. Got out and commissioned Artillery through ROTC and back in until retirement. 10 years teaching in public schools, three years defense contracting in Kuwait, now driving truck. Nice career progression, hey?

You've come up in the world.

After the divorce, I went Navy. The range leaders could never figure out how I could qualify Expert on anything that threw any kind of projectile. So I was sent to the SeaBees.
