I found out that it works out to be the same weather you run short or long miles at marten. They have drivers believing that they make more working harder on short mile loads. They asked me why I won't do short runs. I said, why work harder for the same pay. I got that uh look from them. So now I am on my way home to clean the truck out. I have a feeling. It won't be much longer before I get the marten boot. Oh! Some thing else marten does to the drivers. They have what's called speed gauge. So they either call up or send a message out to the driver. Letting them know about the speeding they are doing in a weak powered 65 mph truck. Plus in the shop they ad 5 percent to the idle time. And then force you to sign off saying that you went over the idle time. They are a company of liars.

Twenty one years driving experience and you go with Marten Transport? Wow.
-
just because he has experience dont mean he's a good driver.Maybe he has 6 speeding tickets on his record and marten was the only co to hire him
-
Thanks for that post, I'm new and trying to narrow choices down, sounds like they are a company in decline.

I would not run short haul at a refer co either dealing with the grocery store time wasters.
I do 2 runs from Tacoma Wa to Portland OR at $244 per day and if I do a Cali or Nevada run I get $357 but the short run is D&H and the bay area or Reno runs are evening del and I don't get reloaded till the next afternoon so for me the short haul pays the best. -
Not true at Maarten or other megas, if you aren't spotless with a moon landing or two, they won't touch you. What a joke, a BFI Co turning up their noses at drivers. I won't work for another mega if I can help it..

I was with Marten 4 years 8 1/2 months. They fired me because I parked at the Super 8 in Albuquerque NM.
They towed the truck in the middle of the night I was staying at the Super 8.
This happened 01\12\2012.
Said not a secure loctenation.
I just got a copy of my DAC.
Marten used my signed DAC request from 05/05/2007 to ask for ask for a "Drug report" on 05/05/2011...WTF.
I only worked for them for the last 4 years where would there be a drug charge?
The request came back no.
But why did they even request that? Again WTF?
But I had reached maximum pay scale on 05/05/2011.
Can you say looking for a reason to fire a driver.
I am eligible for rehire upon review at new hire pay of course. -
BTW I have found employment else ware and the nightmares (lasted 2 weeks) of Marten have stopped.
A little lower pay 70 mph truck.
loads so far I left the yard with my first load 02/17/2012.
1600 miles
1150 miles
2100 miles
1600 miles
then 1 1/2 days off at home (could have taken longer but wanted to come back out today).
New load 390 miles dead head 2149 loaded have to be there on the 8th and I load in the morning ran the 390 today.
Sitting 12 miles from the shipper.
Couldn't be happier they did me a big favor sleeping better then I have in the last 3 years.
Working for marten was great when I first started but gradually went down hill.
It happened so slow I did not see how it was affecting me.
The stress the lack of sleep so I do have to say it.
Thank you Marten transport for firing me.xlsdraw Thanks this. -
This is the #1 reason why co's can't keep drivers...
It doesn't matter if your making .45/mi if your not running..
How much your being paid per mile doesn't mean squat if all you're doing is sitting all the time. -
You forgot to mention the 3cents per mile they charge the drivers to pay with per diem! You are REQUIRED to accept per diem pay ... no options. This actually means your Social Security Benefits will be lower when you retire, but also means the company doesn't have to pay in as much tax on your account! But even though you are REQUIRED to accept per diem, Marten charges the driver 3 cents per mile to "cover the cost" of their paying per diem!!! 10,000 miles per month X 3 cents X 1000 drivers equals ???? $300,000 PER MONTH ... all into Randy's pocket!!!
Don't like that? Try this .... get hired at 41 cents per mile, only to find out that they use sliding scale for pay. What that means is that if your load is about 200 miles you get paid 40-41 cents. If it's 201 to about 450 you get paid about 39 cents per mile. If the load is over 450 miles, you're down to 37-38 cents per mile. So ... you may be TOLD you're getting 41 cents, but that only looks good on paper because reality is that it doesn't exist!!!
So much for the "Old Randy" ... the one who cared about his drivers and always kept in mind that WITHOUT THE DRIVER, THE COMPANY DOESN'T EXIST!!!skibum_63 Thanks this.
