I thought about haulin milk a few times, we have a couple local companies that run some nice large cars doing farm pick ups, but the 7 days a week schedule and percentage pay kinda turned me away.

I can't even say that my experience was that bad. Without experiences there is no knowledge. One of The old milk haulers told me It's all he ever wanted to do. He was happy as a meadowlark. So were many of The others, Just simply was not for me. I suspect to that in nous day u deal with several larger farms too. In central Minn I had 33 farms one day and 27 the next. It All has to click to get it done.
Big JayDoc W Thanks this. -
Well... LSMT pays per mile. So does the "other" companies I know of out of KS, OK, MO and TX. But the farm pickups isn't what the Regional Milk Hauler does. That's the Route/Loader. We pick up at drop yards, or our yards and deliver to the plants for processing. It's the best side of the milk business IMHO.

I'm so glad I don't have to load at dairy farms. It's not my cup of tea either. Especially as many as you did!

We are a good company that has had it's ups and downs. But, who hasn't? I have yet to be pulled in for an inspection (and that's been over a year) -- knock on wood!

Loading at the Dairys and delivering to a drop yard isnt bad. Loading at a Dairy and waiting and waiting and waiting at a plant sucks. I worked from 9 to 12 hours a day and averaged $250 a day. Easy work. Home every night.
-
Wow. That was a good gig.
I am Regional. My choice. I am out 5-6 days in for 2 full days and I p/u at yards (once in a while at a dairy, but the tank is already loaded) and deliver to plants. I can tell you that I do not have to wait more than 2-3 hrs on average at most plants. Like I said earlier, there are 4-5 plants that are horrible, but everyone knows these and deals with it. The vast majority of the deliveries takes LESS TIME than most cold storages, Wal-Mart DC's, Tyson's, and HE Butt's!
Let me pull an "udder" any day!!!

up here in vermont there is one that pays 196 a day 6 days on then 2 days off thats for transport and they home every night
-
That sounds like us. In your second year, if you run 660 miles in a day, you will get $198.00. We work 5 1/2 to 6 1/2. Then, if you want, get 2 full days off. I.E... I worked from last Wed. to yesterday (Tues.) and got home about 2pm. I will be off until Fri. morning. I love it!! I have family time, and make my bills. I can't complain. Even if I did, who'd listen?!?
