The over qualified reason for not hiring is widely used as a way to avoid saying things they can't say either legally or ethically.
For instance, they couldn't come out and say that since you're very experienced, you could present challenge to management who may not have your level of experience, where a young guy would present no challenge and could be easier formed in the ways of the company and the duties of the job at a lower cost. Younger workers are generally more willing to accept entry level pay and benefits and be more moldable since they haven't yet had time to figure out the angles of the industry. Management likes to work the angles for the companies benefit so they would rather hire people who aren't aware of them and will more easily fall into place and respect the management.

The management calls that conditioning, truckmechanic, and it sounds as if you're getting a very extensive conditioning. Not to worry, insanity ain't so bad, you eventually get used to the voices when you enter the comfortably numb stage.

Lol, Wouldn't be so bad if they could issue shock collars to young newbies for incentive to excell to the end of their apprenticeship.

Had my truck worked on at the Cat dealer in Saginaw MI today. I was impressed with No price gouging, and They Sold me only the parts that were needed. Friendly staff also!

I think it boils down to all these so called smart management people think us mechanics are idiots and are stupid when there so far off id like to see them come out in the middle of the summer in 120 degree heat and work on something it takes a lot of skill to be a good mechanic also takes a lot off brains there is a lot of guys who think there mechanics but don't know squat I can see where management thinks they can rule the world with all the young guys that take it I like to see there faces when I tell them to f##k off when they try to tell you how to fix something from there office when they can't even set the presets
    on there radios

Management has the power to force us to not follow our practical thinking process. Their way is better, even though we know it won't work out, it's not our job to make the big decisions. It just might be much easier to pay them to go away so things can run smoothly for a change. They're mostly just phone clerks anyway, a point of interference if you will.
