Are you negotiating with these brokers ? As in, "pays $1.35 a mi", you say "need $2.00".........

Not trying to be rude or mean, but you have to pay your dues. No broker in their right mind will give their best paying loads to an untested "noobie" carrier. They simply do not want to risk loosing their customers. Read the "Report a Bad Company" forum to read tales of hostage freight, stolen loads and bad srvice. Keep working hard, establish yourself as a go to guy, get loads delivered on time, keep your CSA score clean and time will reward with better paying freight.
Another thing, this time of the year is really tough for freight. Most brokers already have their preffered carriers that they will offer loads to first.
Oh and trash brokers? Don't bite the hand that feeds you. Like above was said, negotiate. If you don't like the rate, be polite and keep calling. -
Supply and demand.
Talking to driver about couple broker relationships he has for coming out of home. On any given week the guy would give him a list of loads to pick. This month it has been "may have something coming free tomorrow".
And these are loads you would never hear about.
Bite the bullet and position to better paying area.
But FL produce season is coming and rates will increase for vans.jgh22 Thanks this. -
Dues,Dues and dues eveyone should pay I did.
I remember my first load going on six years ago. Paid 85 cents a mile on short miles, headed to ocala fl. in january. Pull if for LS they raped me good first year. Took me about 2 years to learn what I should be getting.
January in Fl. or Tx you best make it going in cause it's not there coming out.blanco Thanks this. -
Revelation seems to have had some issues in past with LS. But most will tell you they are the best for new drivers and getting a fair rate. But again, right now is just dead.
jgh22 Thanks this. -
Ocala usually has plants, trees during january. Gent I spoke with while unloading at Houston garden center said load paid 1800 from Ocala,Fl. Yes, its floor loaded and takes up to 4 hrs to unload but not bad. He was from Houston, so it worked out well for him. He didn't mention broker, but I know flowers, plants pay decent.
Ps. He had an old mc number. 34xxxx -
Thanks for your info and i didnt mean to call all brokers trash because i know that there is some out there that are fairgame, let me tell you a little bit about me and the situation i am in, i am not a driver i am 26 years old and i am a dispatcher for a small company of that only move 3 dry vans the owner of this company also happens to be my father in law, and sadly to say he WAS/IS one of the guys that took low rates and brokers know it(1.40-1.70 per mile in the good seasons) i just started dispatching and negotiating rates/loads for him and his company this past october and its very hard to get those rates up or finding better brokers, this is my first slow season and i am just amazed by the rates that this brokers are offerings (1.10) and i know it is his fault for letting that happend, i have been trying really hard to find direct shippers and better brokers but i guess right now its just bad/dead everywhere?blanco Thanks this.

The company it self is not new at all and it has a perfect CSA score.
what i ment to say is that I am the noobie in this busines, i lurk the forums daily to try and learn whatever i can to better the situation that we are in and one thing i keep reading is to say no to cheap freight but from the starting point that i had to take its hard to get this brokers to go up in the rates after they have been giving them to us for years and we have been moving them.Last edited: Jan 26, 2012

Never said they wasn't good for starting out. But I will differ on pay scale
you can take the landstar board and the daty board and find the load posted
with two or more other name brokers and even other LS agents and most of the time the rate will be more elsewhere.
You'll even find some LS agents posting chrw loads.
They cover it with different city names.
My income only increased after I moved away from hauling for LS & CHRW.
Then again it does change up from time to time.
