I worked for Swain Oil back in the 80's. It was just a 2000 gal tank with a 50 foot hose on the back. We would fill up utility vehicles in the yards at night for Pacific Bell. The more you pumped the more made. To this day I could not believe how many employees and others would walk up to the truck with cigarettes in their mouths. It was at night, but still !?. I lost count of how many times I would have to tell people to stay away from the truck. It kept me on edge often. I could be about fifty feet from the truck filling and having to keep an eye on the truck at the same time, It was a real pain when the weather was bad, and you had to check every vehicle for fuel. With the small tank the truck would empty out fast on busy nights. Made 17 cent for every gal pumped. It was a good job.

The last time I was asked "Got a light?" I just said "sure," pulled my Zippo out of my pocket, and flipped the lid open. The dude's eyes got HUGE, and he jumped on his bike and pedaled away.

How many of you have ever seen a four-wheeler drive away from the pump with the nozzle still stuck in their gas tank?
I have, more than once. -
Many times. I like when the guy pulls up and goes into the store to pay for his gas and another guy in another car is waiting to pump his fuel. You'll always see a big fight and there's nothing the store can do. I even had one guy come over to me and demand that I pay for his gas. Yeah right, wait here I be right back!

Or the car that pulls into the station and passes you while you are unloading........and then flicks his cigarette out the window just as he passes you.

kind of on the same note ..use to deliver compressed hydrogen to a metal coating shop near Huntington WV when I backed to the transfill line I was beside (literally 12'' ) the smoke shack ...looked like an OSHA violation to me..I would be pressuring off hydrogen gas at 2400 psi and folks would come running out to grab a quick smoke, after many attemps to keep people away they finally had a supervisor stand in the smoke shack to stop people from lighting up a foot away from a potential bomb...they must have failed reading or chemistry class in school...delivering liquid oxygen to hospitals is another great story happens all the time tanks are usually behind the building and all the nurses come running out to light one up while were pumping off 4800 gallon of liquid oxygen....
