Every picture is 'discoverable' should there be a lawsuit so use 'em all up at the scene. Take pictures from every angle and make sure you get anny skid and yawl marks from the tires and get the junk & stuff on the ground too! You want the most information you can get to support your side of the story. -
Right now it just safety classes next week but they need people so bad in the fd account they are tryingbto keep me Im about to tell them on Monday that I rather return the truck than keep doing that account.

About 4 months ago I tore a hole in my trailer in Buffalo, NY on a low bridge following a construction detour for a truck route. Cost me $1156 out of pocket for the repair and 2 days in a motel waiting for it to be finished. Felt like a ####### but life goes on and I still have a job. I should have listened to my gut and taken the long way around from the north.

While I agree that in the overall, cosmic, scheme of things, this is insigificant...THERE ARE NO MINOR ISSUES WHEN IT COMES TO SAFETY AND HITTING OBJECTS!
Between that attitude, and "mommy's special little man" at Swift, we should all be allowed hit ANY TWO OBJECTS, as long as nobody gets killed, and all is well in the world, right? No harm, no foul?
TS, mistakes happen, and this is certainly, a 'rookie mistake' but what we learn and correct from our mistakes is what makes us successful, and who we are.
This time it was 'just a' fence; which, I'm assuming was at least 3feet high, and at least as wide as your tailer. NO EXCUSE for hitting it. It could have just as easily been a person, car, or building. If you didn't see it, or worse, saw it, and didn't bother checking where you were, what's to say you won't hit that person, car, or building next time?
If this has you wanting to turn your truck in, it has nothing to do with the account (spoiler alert:THERE ARE FENCES AND OBSTACLES EVERYWHERE, NOT JUST FAMILY DOLLARS) and everything to do with doubting you can do this job. Think about it...long and hard...
Am I being harsh? CERTAINLY!
But it is the 'ooopsie! hahaha' attitude that is ruining EVERYTHING, not just trucking. But, this attitude directly impacts ALL facets of our industry; top two:
1) Public perception of drivers
2) PAY: More and more carriers are becoming self insured: the more $$ they continue to have to pay out for nickel and dime stupidity claims, the less they have to pay us, and justifiably so. Why pay more to incompetent/unsafe drivers (no longer directed specifically at you TS lol)
Werner and Swift each have in excess of 10000 drivers. Safe to say over half of them have this attitude and/or skillset. Those 10000 drivers actually equals at least 17000 driver each, per year (turnover) at $500/incident x 8500 (50% of 15000) and you have $4.25M in stupidity paid out each year. Honestly, I think these are rather conservative figures.
Stop looking at the immediate small picture, and start looking at the long term BIG picture. Is this your job for now, or career for the long haul? -

Well today I did the smith training and my fleet manager told me to call placement, I did, I'm in a safety hold so can't go to another account until they call me. since I have been out of training I have only seem one 187.56 dollar check that's 3 weeks. I have been bobtailing more than anything else(251 miles each way from home). Had to touch my savings account just to make ends meets, I'm glad I don't have no kids or wife.
