That is correct. I knew you knew that.
While this is true. But for reasons I dont know why, a 9 speed is the only gear box where you can turn a gear around to change the final drive ratio. In a 10 you cant trun 9th and 10th around.
new transmission regrets.....

My 15sp came factory with 5th and 10th against the dash. My model number indicates it's a single overdrive. I have always been confused why people considered them a double overdrive.
-
Its because when 8th and 9th is turned there up against the dash so some drivers assume when a 15speed is against the dash its a double over. I had a 9speed like that once from the factory but it was a single over drive, if 8th and 9th were turned in it it became a direct drive.
I may be wrong but I dont think Eaton makes 9's 10's 13's 15's against the dash anymore. -
Yeah, I don't know if they do make them anymore. I have never run across a newer one that had it this way. Mine is a '93 model.
-
They have a reverser in the shift tower that moves the 3rd rail in the same direction as the stick. So the gears are flipped in the trans, but they have normal shift patterns.
-
Ok kids your both right and both wrong about the 10 speed thing, Current 10 speeds don't lend them selves to flipping , but most 7 and previous series were the same main box as a 15 and could be front row flipped
now if the clowns at roadranger would make a REAL 15 speed with 15 ratios not just 12 and then split the top 10 they would have a transmission
Hammer166 Thanks this. -
I kind of figured all the new FR series were flipped already with updated shift tower. None of the RTLO's with the overdrive high gear can be flipped for the same reason. (Well they could be flipped, but it'd take them back to direct drive transmissions, with the stick on the dash in high gear!) I was mainly thinking of the older RT- 10's, when I couldn't see why they couldn't be turned.
Thanks for clearing things up! -
They do have different 15 ratios.
Some of them might be very close, and yes you can only go through 12 gears in a row, but there is 15 ratios. And yes, that would be a nice tranny.
-
had the tranny put in yesterday and ran it last night works great fuel milage picked back up and its nice to hear the truck screaming down the road.

I bet that trans is a singing son of a gun with an internal OD and the rear box OD.
