Before I installed the unit I read a lot tests. Some was companies doing a larger scale of what drivers have done here.
But the controlled tests I had a hard time understanding.
So I had the person that knows more about diesel engines than any other person I know and works for CAT, look at this. He said it is along the lines of what CAT has been working on for big engines.
He explained it in simple terms (even felt that some of the testers didn't understand what it did, LOL). Said the theory worked but if they could do it was the question.

Care to share how he said it works, there Bill?

The odometer maybe off due to tire size/wear, but it is still alot closer to get accurate measurement for fuel mileage comparision from one change to another unless you change the tire size and not readjust odometer to match tire size. The fuel pump measure fuel used over time with several fill ups better than the ECM does by far measuring fuel flow to estimate gallons used. My ECM never measures it right compared to gallons used.
When I went to Michelin SS, I recalibrated the Speedo and rechecked it by mile markers on the interstate and my GPS to make sure it was close to the same when I had dual Bridgestone tires.
The biggest place the ECM is wrong is the amount of fuel flow measured is always off.
The idea of testing is to have an accurate baseline of 30 days to compare the next 30 days with the only variable being the change made to measure the difference. Any other mechanical changes, speed changes, etc. will skew the results like BigBadBill and you did with other changes made either mechanical or speed.Last edited: Jan 28, 2012

Nobody lied. The post says the samething either way that you changed your speed during comparision that is obvious not a true apples to apples comparision now that you added the EcoTaz and slowed down by your own words.
You are admitting your before was at higher speed than your after speed with EcoTaz was slower. Of course you are going to get better fuel mileage slowing down.....duh -
I am even getting ready to post pictures of my 2011 IFTA 4th quarter filing so anybody that wants to can compare and verify all my information on mygauges.com
I can prove my fuel numbers very easy. -
Two trips, one with, one without, both at 60-62 mph.
Return trip on second the with was faster. And I ran faster WITH the Eco on the return. And comparison was only using my trip down with and without. Because I ran faster than normal I did not use my without return numbers as a comparison. Remove one line and it changes what I was saying. But you knew that. Didn't you?
I would say you misunderstood what I had posted but you dropped the part about why running faster and when. -
I am still waiting on the professional salesman with the sales pitch to come back with some proof of the 11 mpg claim???
-
I can't help but wonder, if I installed a new part on my truck expecting that part to gain me fuel mileage, would I then alter my driving habits enough to see at least a .5 mpg gain?
I think it's possible that is where some of the gains come from with this ecotaz product. -
Based on some of your other post you will likely be able to fill-in what I missed. But a lot of what you said in a earlier post was what he said.Hammer166 said: ↑Care to share how he said it works, there Bill?Click to expand...
But the key around ECO and what CAT has been trying to do is that you lose energy in combustion because of WHEN it combusts (sp?). You want all the fuel to burn at the beginning of the down stroke. But because of many factors that is not happening - getting better - but not happening. One of the factors is what he says the ECO is claiming to do.
He told me that how quickly the fuel ignites is related to how fine a mist injectors create (remember, he was dumb-ing this down for me so don't bash me for not understanding all this). The finer the mist the quicker the burn.
What he felt from what he read is that ECO is claiming to help the injectors create a better mist. And that he felt that this was not science fiction because it was what CAT has been trying to do.
He talked a lot about types of injector, reliability, fuel pressure, etc but I was not following.
When I called him after installing and asked about the power increase I was feeling he said that would also be a by product of if this worked.
Sure I messed that all up but that was how I remember it.
