To all of you who think they want to attend TDI/CDI in South Bend, IN. Beware, first if your credit is not good, they will bring you there for several days and then kick you out. I watched numerous students get the sahft when I went through there in July of 2008. 2nd, While they are good enough to be credited by several trucking companies, they will not place you in any job and they insist that by about the end of the second week you have chosen one of their affiliated companies to work for if you can't pay your own way.
When I went through there, there were a few female students and I watched them get chewed out for things and they would either get kicked out or end up crying. I can't remember the names of the instructors there now, but there was one short and bald hillbilly guy who was a pain in the rear. He did not care about anybody, and if you got on his bad side, you were ignored if you needed any educational (driving-backing-parking)advice. Also, the equipment they used to train you on was bare essential and old. They had a couple of good teachers at that time that were fair with the students.
They were charging $6000.00 if you charged it through their shifty credit company, but if you could pay cash, it was $5000.00. I will give a positive side to them. The hotel they put you up in was reasonably ok, although it was 2 people to a room and you never know who was your roomy.
It was a three week school and if you need expidited training to get going, it is tolerable, but I would not sign up with any of their associated trucking companies. When I got done there, I went to work for Maverick Transportation LLC. for a year out of North Carolina, with their headquarters in Little Rock, AR. Good Luck I say!!!![]()

I dont know this must have been A completly different school a couple years ago, because I am going there now and love it. The instrctors are all very nice and helpfull, the equipment is oook.. but its good enough to learn on. They do help place you in a job sort of, I mean they dont physically fill out your apps but come on is that really that hard?? They do help you get all your info around and when you do fill out apps they will fax them along with all your other paper work such as dot physical to the prospective employer. They are a little pricy yes that part does bother me, but I like the idea of being able to pick who I work for and not getting stuck with a company just because they trained me.. As far as job oppertunties I have in my folder right now five prehires. Which I am loving, this means options... But like I said I am still attending there so who knows but as of right now I would highly recemend them!
Keep on Truckn! -
I didn't go to that TDI, but I attended the Oxford, AL school recently, and really can't speak highly enough about them. Job placement worked as you would expect. If your background is suitable for a driving job, you will be fine. With my spotless record, I got a pre hire from every company I applied with, all 7 of them. I ended up going to Boyd Bros, and so far so good. In the training phase now.
