I just joined the forum and Im from NE TX. There is a company called TN Transport advertising on Dallas Craigslist for hauling Rv's to Texas. I work 3 10 hr shifts in a row per week and off 4 days in my reg job. I was thinking this might work if they are a good company. Thought maybe I could haul a few per month. They are saying 1.25 to 1.40 mi. I run a milk route picking up at dairies and we've been cut back to 30 hrs per week. I've just bought a new Dodge diesel a few weeks before they cut us back....go figure. So I already have a truck that needs paying for. Ive been a driver for 15 years, just about hauled everything except heavy haul. Thanks for any info you might have!

The 30 hours you work and the hours you run hauling RV's will be combined to count on your 70 hours in 8 days . I can't see it working . I assume the RV's are coming from IN . You will not be paid the miles from TX to IN but you will probably have to log it .
There is good paying work in TX for 1 tons .

Thanks, I talked to a United Vision Logistics O/O at a truck stop last week. They haul oilfield, and he said he is doing well. I'll keep researching. I may just quit and get another full time driving job. No point in wearing out my new pickup and not make any money.

Us RV transporters get to take off the magnets and run on our own time when not hooked up.
That means no "drive time" on the log books one way. yeah you don't get paid for it but you make much better timeand mileage and can drive much longer if needed.
Run "off duty" until you get to Bristol In.
Bob and Nikki own TN, Nikki does the dispatch, they're OK, don't expect much or many answers to your questions, it's the nature of the beast in this end of the industry. They just want you to take loads every week quietly with no issues.
They were out of Hastings Mi when I ran for them but were talking about moving to their yard in Bristol In. The yard is full of trailers. Bob isn't keen on straight up truckers but if they are busy I'm sure they will take anyone.
Most all transport companies will be busy for the next 6 months anyway.
Pack your food and sleep in your truck. There will be about a hundred new rules you will have to understand and a hundred papers you have to sign but you'll get used to it.
use the long haul mentality of daily pay not hourly pay, you will make around $175.00 daily take home.

Thanks, I called Nikki today as her number is on the CL ad. She answered on a Sun. I've already got a 5th wheel hitch for my RV so I think I'll give it a shot. I may try the hot shot oil field stuff later after I decide if I want to invest in a trailer.

Bunch of bad advice here . You sign a contract with the RV company and taking the signs off doesn't end the contract or make your vehicle a private vehicle . The legit RV transport companies require you to log when returning to IN . Some would allow you to log off duty at a terminal near your home but many of those terminals have closed .
Sleeping in a pickup without a sleeper not meeting FMCSA specs is illegal .
This company sounds like a fairly new company . All new carriers get a mandatory audit within a year . They'll get a wakeup call then .

I for the life of me do not know why the trailer mfgr's consortium can not get together and raise their delivery prices to reflect a realistic rate that get's them BACK to Indiana since they want their rigs to run "exclusive" on their regs. And to top it off, they continue to build new plants in IN as opposed to cheaper states such as TX. So if they are going to operate in a way that makes backhauls virtually impossible, they need to pay a minimum of $2.50 one way + FSC>$3.50 (for the typical 5th or large bumper pull) to where the contractors are treated with respect instead of no different than an illegal migrant worker working for beans and rice wages.

I guess so long as there are "retirees" willing to wear out their vehicle, making it worthless after a few years, for cost (if that), and who can sleep freezing or sweating on a 5 foot bench seat 4 nights a week, this phenomenon will continue.
