truck troubles

    Can anyone help me out with my problem? When I start my truck the engines's rpm's jump from 500-1100 and black plumes of smoke come out of the exhaust. this goes on for about 5 minutes then it clears up. doesn't do this when i'm driving down the road.

    I would suggest replacing the fuel filter as it will eventually give you more problems.

    Sounds like EGR to me. Id say if it doesnt do it when you drive then keep it rolling!!
