Hi Redman 64 I wont tell ya this is a good idea and i wont tell ya its a bad one either there are so many things to consider whe becoming an O/O ya the big trucks look good and all but if you have ever lived on the road it aint easy also is your husband handy? if hes not and your hauling general freight by the mile be prepared tires fuel and repairs are costly! so do your home work first because this aint like driving a company truck. I've seen company drivers become O/O some were successful but most were not. So give it alot of thought the feeling might go away on its own but if your serious pray about it first i hope everything works out for you and your husband

It has been my experience that the big sleepers are great if you do not plan on going home for a few months at a time. As said, you will most likely be limited to a 48' trailer and most I see are pulling a step deck as it pays better than van freight and the weight is less on the empty trailer.

That being said, you will not be able to run California, Florida, and Canada due to the length of the combination as well. But if it is what you guys really want to do, expect to have at lease $50k to put down, and a nicely loaded up ICT truck is going to run you between $180k-$225k easily.

I love the dream, but the reality may not be there.

I've been looking into them as well, so i know the spot rates right now LOL

I would option for the 86" Studio as well over the big sleeper unless I was ready to retire and sell my house. Then I would buy the KW i was looking at for $225k and make some money while I played snowbird. at least that is my plan for the future...... 40years from now.

big sleepers are a money pit especially in this economy.

your going to be making way less because you can carry less and waste more diesel...

just get a kenworth t700 awesome o/o truck that is good for a team, that is if you have the money for it.

your post was rather slim in detail at all.

Just good natured ribbing. But I'm sure you got over it by now by jumping into your standalone aroma therapy chamber.

Or maybe just jealous that I still have to bundle up in the winter to go use the bathroom in the morning.

Only thing I do not like about the t700 is the dang cabinet they put behind the drivers seat. I have long legs and the seat back where I need it hits the cabinet. Also I don't need the condo roof as I run stepdecks, but other than that it is a descent truck. I'd take a T660 over the 700 anyday tho.

We bought a 1997 freightshaker in signature and avatar it was cheap and in good condition most of my almost 7 years experience has been pulling a reefer box with some of the loads weighing 45,486 in the box putting me at 80k gross with a third of a tank of fuel in a 07 short nosed pete with a 63 inch sleeper the freightshaker has a 70 inch condo but I am highly mechanically inclined and can fix most things myself short of doing a major on it because of facilities and the specialty tools. So a lot to consider not to leave out the over abundance. Of paperwork involved.
