For the most part they're the same radio, except Uniden makes their own boards and Cobra has always had them outsourced.

In the old days Cobra radios had Uniden boards but since about 1992 they've had Maxon and one other company build them.

Cobra is a bigger selling name because of that...the name. Unidens are usually cheaper.

However if you want a backlit model definitley DO NOT get any of the Cobra Nightwatch models because once the back lighting burns out, it's out and it costs as much as a new radio to fix it. The Uniden Elite series, OTOH has multiple LED's to keep the back lighting going.

i would go with the uniden. i had a Pc68(peaked and tuned) and it worked great. after a while i decided it was time for more, so i was faced with having some work done to the uniden or get a new radio. so i went with a cobra 29 ltd, it was ok, but i noticed it wouldnt receive as good as the uniden. turns out the cb shop i got the radio from is a cobra authorized dealer.

i actually had some problems with the cobra. the ltd i had lasted about 3 weeks and stopped working, took it back to the shop he said the main board was bad and gave me a new one. had the second one about 5 weeks, and it justdidnt seem to be working as good as the first 29, and no where near as good as the uniden. so i took it back, guy offered me another one. i laughed and said no its ok, ill take the 29LX. he offered to peak and tune it for me as he did the others. i said no, let it alone. and it worked ok. i started looking for other shop to do some modification work to it for me, and found out this guy sucks, and also found out that the receive on the 29 isnt great. and till i spent the money to get it where i wanted it, i could just buy a new radio.i was also advised that the uniden is a better radio over the 29, in quality and over performance.. call R&R communications in Wilmington DE. they were very nice and helpful. i originally was gonna buy the radio else where but decided to get it from them. bought a Stryker 497 HPC, and i love it.im also using 2 wilson 2000 antennas.

hope this helps you make your decision.

You pop the covers on both radios and set them side by side
you wouldnt be able to tell the difference unless you look at the face plates.
