Hello everyone, I received a phone call from a Recruiter at Maverick. My application is with the approval committee and waiting for approval.

I have a question for those who are with Maverick. How's Orientation like ?. I currently am employed with a lumber company and ive been there for 8 years. Reason im wanting on leaving is for something better for myself and for my family. I havent had a raise in 4 years and my benefits is crappy. Im worried that i wont do as well as i want during the Orientation process and they will send me home and im out without a job.

Ive been reading on this forum as to how strict Maverick is during the Process and well i was just wanting some feed back. I really want this and really want succeed but on the other hand i dont want for them to burst my bubble and send my ### home. I have No experience on driving a Semi and no experience on securement.

    Feed back please.

They are a good company. Do not drink or do nothing stupid before or during orientation. One guy got caught drinking at a bar and had to pay all expenses back and had a bad report on his DAC report! Heard they were all electronic logs now days. Good pay..when i worked there i got paid 41 cents per mile, 20-steel tarp, 40-lumber tarp, and some real good pay for multi stops-30 to 70 bucks per additional stop. Do follow there rules. I quit because my dispatcher was absolutley clueless and started dragging his feet finding me a load....your dispatcher (fleet manager) should push you....you shouldn't have to call them and bug the crap out of them to get a load and not set for hours. If you have an accident....LOCK DOWN THE EATON VORAD SYSTEM!!!!! I was envolved in a DOT recordable accident in august of 2008. Called safety and woke a women up and she advised me to not lock down the truck (meaning lock down the data on the VORAD system). I left in January the next year and now work for PGT. They said i had a side swipe/lane change on my DAC report. So do not trust a dam word they say...cover your ###, not theres. They did have Steve Williams come in and clean house one day and got rid of about 10-15 fleet managers that was ruining his company and drivers was quiting because of bull crap. Such as truck repair and loads that the drivers couldn't pick up when dispatched to them, it happened to me at rocksboro NC. Went to pick up a load of wooden I-beams and they were closed. My F/M went home and i sat at the Petro all weekend. They did pay me 800 miles for screwing me over though!!! So all in all i do have to say i liked the company but sometimes you need to change F/M's cause Harrold the bald headed dork is still there and hasn't got fired yet. He likes to get your truck fixed at a shop and tell you to go off duty and take a 10 hour break and then head on out.....Who is gonna drive the truck in and out of the shop??? I cant sleep in the resturant??? Stuff like that happens not only with Maverick but with all companies. Another thing, DO NOT EXCHANGE LOADS WITH OTHER DRIVERS AND IF YOU DO KEEP YOUR TARPS!!! I got screwed over 3 times. Lumber tarps with 10 foot long rips and steel tarps that someone threw over a pissed off Lion or Tiger. They will say a driver needs to get home and al that...i got screwed on my miles evrytime i did do that. Pull the tarps off and count the securements yourself, that way you don't get shorted anything and YOU KNOW WHAT KIND OF SHAPE YOUR TARPS ARE IN!!! I knew off 21 people who got fired or quit while Maverick was doing there recovery from the economic downfall. 523 drivers after January 2009 to March 2009 went home with no job because Maverick had to save thereselfs from going out of business. They now do reefer, tanker loads which is in and out of arkansas, flatbed, and glass hauling. Look at a Maverick truck these days...Ever see a recap on any trailer?...NO!!! They downsized to better outfit the company. Just beware there will be eyes on you, do not stop by the little rock terminal to get your truck fixed because they are always backed up. They will fire you without hesitation, there a trucking company, just remember that!

Thanks for the info Mr. Fedup. I ended up turning down the orientation invitation. Main reason because it was a huge risk for me. By what my recruiter told me, orientation is nothing but a huge evaluation. That hole week people will be watching you and test you. He also said that I wouldn't know if I got the job til the end of orientation so nothing was certain even though you got the invitation. It was to risky for me and I couldn't take that risk. I have a family to support. I respect that they have high standards but I'm not sure if ill be able to meet those standards. Local jobs are extremely hard to find these days if it was easy to find then I would of went to maverick. Get what I'm saying.

I feel bad that I turned them down but on the other hand I'm glad I did because of my family. Everything I do is for them. Yes I want to better myself and the lives of my family by bring home more money but if its ganna be risky then I won't go
    for it ya know.

I'm looking into BTC. By what I read they have a pretty good pay package and your home on weekends 98% of the time so ill see what happens.

Were you planning on screwing up? Anyway, sounds like you're happy with the decision. All that matters.

Bori, not trying to scare you off at all, but all orientations are about the same. There going to check everything. If your BP is good, your driving record good, and you havent killed anyone lately you should be ok. Just be upfront about any of your past. They don't like it when you try to hind things. Since you've been at your current job 4 years, do you have any vacation time you could use for your orientation? Then your job would still be there if it didnt work out. Good luck to you.

Oh im not worried about the dot physical, driving record or any accidents. I passed 3 DOT physicals before i have no accidents and i have 2 tickets in the past 3 years. Its just the fact that nothing is promised until the end of the process. With Maverick you have 1 week of Orientation and it consist of a crap load of things and after words its 2 weeks of securement and then 4 weeks with a trainer. Im not worried of the 2 weeks of securement but the 1 week of orientation.

With BTC its 3 days of orientation and then your with a trainer and he shows you securement on the road. I just found out that by getting on with BTC you need to attend driving school in which i havent. So thats out the picture.

I contacted Boyd and there not hiring students at the time. so thats out the picture as well.

Im still searching and seeing who i can benefit from.

BTC is a good company. I have yet to talk to one of their drivers who is unhappy and from what I heard their medical coverage is very good!!
