Found this website the other day. Has lots of good info for new drivers on securing coils, rods and pipe. Just click on the "driver support" tab up top and scroll down to "securement"

Thank's appreciate it SHC, you learn something new everyday.
SHC Thanks this. -
Most places won't let you put a chain over top of coil so just use a strap instead.
VisionLogistics and SHC Thank this. -
Thank you for the link, he has several good illustrations with text descriptions under the driver support menu. Awesome reference.

The place I pull skidded coils out of required we use chains and steel edge guards. I was going to just throw 2 straps a coil and they told me NO.
But you are correct, straps make more sense to me due to the thin material. -
I was referring to a stand up coil, the place that you loaded out of was right! Only lazy or inexperienced steel haulers use straps on skidded coils!07-379Pete Thanks this.

thanks for the post shc good info for a noob to have

I've been to other places that require you ONLY use straps on skidded coils so i guess each one is different??? the place I was hauling out of told me that most guys just toss 1 chain on each coil and then use a strap as well. I just used 2 chains criss-crossed and ran with it. The material was very thin tho and the coils only weighed 6,000# each.
Guess one day I will learn it all
